Buzzzzzzz -5minutefreewrite, a horror story
"Where are they coming from?" She Screamed. The window was black, covered with buzzing flies.
..."The swamps" Carlos answered. He glanced at the window. Don't panic, he thought to himself. Aloud, he said, "ha, don't worry. The glass is double paned. Those bugs won't get in here."
Of course, they aren't bugs. They're flies. Flies are insects, but not bugs. I digress.
The flies got louder. Felicia yelled to be heard over their buzzing, "but what if they're there forever? We can't just stay here."
Carlos patted the laptop. "Sure we can. I'll just order tacos to be delivered."
Felicia stared.
"Joke joke. It'll be fine for DAYS, though. I mean, we'll finally get some us time. That's not really a joke."
"You need to count them. All of them!!" Best to hide them behind the house.
Felicia wanted Carlos to count the flies because she was sure that the experiment was showing them what she'd been afraid it would show them. But Carlos didn't seem to be taking her seriously. She wanted to hide them behind the house, not because it was about Easter Eggs, though the prompt seems to suggest that, but rather because there were very young, easily scared roommates they had, namely their children, and she didn't want to alarm them. Indeed.
The experiment, which was of 50 captured flies, had revealed that they propagated without any apparent sustenance. Where there had been 50 sealed in a jar, there were now 60, she was sure. But counting them was very hard.

They were finally safe. The cold weather should have killed the flies, or at least sent them into hibernation. Felicia and Carlos started the car. Their kids were bundled in the back. They were driving further north. They were going to find a mountain top to live on that was never below the frost line. This was probably where most of humanity would try to live.
The engine started.
Put the heater on, Carlos said.

Love the story! I giggled over the Easter egg reference. I was creeped out over the child itching. 😛
Please tell me not erupted with more flies...
Are you ready to take on the next prompt?
