5-Minute Freewrite Prompt: Players

I haven't been watching too much games recently. My husband has been chasing the World Cup and is caught in its fever. Sometimes, when he watched, I tagged along too. I enjoyed the World Cup drama more than the game sometimes, like Suarez saving the goal and biting another player's ear. Hahaha. Anyway, looks like it is a real gane-changer this time round in the World Cup where the underdogs are shining while the giants faded.

Anyway, when I saw this prompt today, it immediately reminded me of an entertainment show I watched recent called Keep Running, from China. I have been a follower for a while because it is really amusing and touching at the same time. There was an episode in this recent season, when the Running Man team (hosts of the show) were challenged by 100 industrial workers to a competition of pushing their limits. It looked easy at first but the challenges got more and more intense. It started with 10 from the team VS 20 representatives from the industrial workers. For the next round, they increased to 10 VS 50 industrial workers and finally, 10 VS 100! It was intense as their physical strength were greatly declining after rounds and rounds of challenges and yet they relentlessly challenged themselves to finish up the game. Finally they lost but their spirit of sportsmanship is to be applauded.

In another episode, they were teamed together with some athletes to challenge against the dragon boat rowing (赛龙舟) teams from universities all over the world. That was a painful episode to watch. The players had to be trained to hold the oars correctly and be in the appropriate position to work as a team. It was so difficult that some of them cried and teared in the process, but yet did not give up. They worked together as players of the same team with the same purpose. They lost again but I believe many of the audiences were going amazed by their fighting spirit.

Being players of the same team would mean to disregard personal preferences and work together towards the same goal, persevering till the very end. Dispute and the temptations to give up are surely bound to happen, but this team of Keep Running has really displayed the spirit of togetherness and they are the type of players I have deep respect for. This show has exceeded beyond just entertainment for me.
