Day 82 - 5 minute freewrite - prompt stetson - A Real Neighbor
Five o'clock was here. I had just put away the groceries, and grabbed a glass of ice water to drink at the picnic table with the husband. I needed a good rest from our shenanigans!
On our way home, on the only major highway close to us, our tire blew! Not just a little but a lot! And to rub salt in the wound, the tire store was in the visible distance...just on the other side of the 4 line highway. After we had called all of our friends, and reached no one, we decided to walk. Our spirits were high though, we were going on an adventure!
As we put make-shift leashes on the dogs, and I wished I had worn homesteading shoes instead of town shoes...some one stopped. Our good buddy, the better half of @borrowedearth, one we hadn't been able to reach, recognized our car and pulled over! Then stopped another friend...then another! And you guessed it...one more. Plus a super friendly officer.
Our first friend actually had a spare that fit, and we were able to drive to the tire store. Then successfully made it home to where I was putting away groceries and sipping water. If I had felt grateful for all those people, it was nothing compared to what was about to roll into our driveway.
Bill, our 70+ year old friend, wearing his stetson, slammed his truck door as he stormed up to our house demanding to know if we had been broken down earlier. Shocked, we told him all about our flat tire. He firmly warned us, while grabbing the Yeti's shirt, "If you ever get broke down again, you better stay that way till I get there." The guy is a real pistol, just the best.
As it turns out, he had passed us, then turned around to find we had already left. He then spent the next four hours driving from town to town looking for us at different auto-repair shops! I tell you what, he is the best kind of neighbor to have.
What a fantastic story!!! You are lucky to have so many good friends!
Thank you! They are good people!
Good folks attract good folks!

Sounds like a lot of fun. Good to meet new people. Good to find people who really do care. Big hearts are out there. Thanks for sharing. God is our Rock. I'm Oatmeal. Love your photo.
Thank you! We were praying and praying because walking was so scary...then bam! So many wonderful people came to help...if you can't see God in that...I don't know what to tell ya lol
What a wonderful world :D
Right?! I hope we'll be able to help someone else just as much!
Yes, that is a really good neighbor.
Absolutely!
Reminds me of Proverbs 18:24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
That's so nice...and yes it does fit :)
