5 Minute Freewrite Day 349-Running In Place
It is a peculiar state of the mind that when you say you want to move, forward, backwards anywhere, but you just don’t. Trapped like a deer in the headlights?, not quite. You are thinking, you realize that you have to act, but you don’t, and instead you just struggle without taking a step.
It just doesn’t happen in a moment of immediate danger, it also occurs on the long run, when contemplating a problem of such a big scale that even your best options seems minuscule. You may be afraid -you surely are- of taking a decision because “it will most likely fail” but other people and whatever conscience you may have still pushes the idea that you have to keep doing something, no time to just contemplate.
It is then that you start making random projects, paying extra attention to any small window of seemingly wonderful opportunity. Because that is something. But it still isn’t the big leap needed to overcome the hardships you may have, they are also distractions, and by taking them, by losing sight of the correct, albeit more difficult path, you are just running in place.
It is an irony most of us face this facet of life, aren't we? I enjoy reading your freewrite.
Yes! ....you realize that you have to act, but you don’t, and instead you just struggle without taking a step.
What a fantastic image, btw - the railroad track in hand - cool!
Yes. that is exactly how it is! Big decisions are so hard and it is so easy to get sidetracked with the small stuff. To be too busy to get going on what really needs to be done...
