Day 125: 5 Minute Freewrite: Wednesday - Prompt: cinnamon

Edmond Moses sat on the park bench watching, he never knew when his next opportunity would appear. For years he had been ashamed of what he was, but now he accepted it, in truth he now embraced it. The world called him a pervert, a child molester, and even under the right circumstances a rapist. It was true that he preyed on those who were weaker than he was, and that he forced his will on them to fulfill his lusts and desires. But wasn't that what others did to him? Didn't the bank do it when they stole his family home after his parents died? Didn't the bullies in school dominate him because he was smaller, didn't they fulfill their lust for power by physically and mentally abusing him? He had been taught in that same school that every species survived, reproduced, and evolved along the lines of survival of the fittest. It was the bigger, faster, stronger, most intelligent or luckiest of a species that got to pass on their genes to the next generation. The idea that had been planted in Edmond's brain was that he might not be the biggest, fastest, strongest or smartest person in the world, but he didn't have to be. All that he had to do was avoid all those he could not dominate, and simply pick out those who he had a distinct advantage over. He might not be able to have anyone or anything that he wanted, but he could prey on the weak and have what he needed and desired.
The one thing that Edmond did have going for him was luck, he had been doing this for forty years and had only been caught twice, and both times his attorney had gotten him off with a plea deal because the States case was too weak to guarantee them a win in court. Sure he had to plead guilty and it was on his public records that he was a sex offender, but who cares, it changed nothing. He still got his monthly checks from Social Security and from a small trust that his dad had set up for him, so it wasn't like he was out looking for a job. It was a pain that whenever someone was molested in his neighborhood the cops would come around to check his alibi, did they really think he was stupid enough to pick someone from his own neighborhood?
What Edmond did not, and could not know, was that at this very moment he was being watched. The hunter was being hunted, and this hunter was more skilled at their task than he could have ever dreamed or imagined. The hunter had all of his public information at their disposal, they had been following him and getting all of his patterns. They listened to the few phone calls that Edmond received and they had used a key-logger to record all of his perverted online activity. The hunter knew what Edmond would be looking for and she intended to provide it for him at just the right moment.
The park had cleared out and Edmond was preparing to go home after another disappointing day, but he was patient, he knew that it was just a matter of time before a good opportunity presented itself. But wait, someone was coming. A slender woman in a business suit and she was looking over a document as she walked and not paying any attention. She was clutching a small bag in one hand and she had an open booklet in the other, this was exactly what he had been waiting for. The only thing that could have been better would have been a lost child, but this would be just fine, he would work fast and she would be at his mercy before she realized what was going on.
Cinnamon Brown could see her target out of the corner of her eye and she could tell that he had taken the bait. Before she had left her position of observation she had made sure that no one else was in the vicinity. In her left hand she was looking at all of the information that she had prepared for the police, when they investigated this crime they would know exactly who Edmond Moses had been and all of the heinous crimes that he had committed. She knew that it would not keep them from searching for her, but let them search. If they did she would know their every move, there were perks to being a professional hacker. On the outside chance that they got close to her, no matter she would just move to another city and start over.
All of the real-world work that she lived and survived off of was completed online, and she received her pay in cryptocurrencies. she rarely paid for anything with a tracible financial instrument, and she knew where every surveillance camera in the city was located and she was always conveniently looking the other way when she passed one. Her mode of travel was a bicycle or a moped, when she needed to go further than she wanted to ride one of those then she called a cab. But she never let them pick her up from home and she paid in cash. No one had ever even come close to catching her.
As she walked past Edmond she saw his muscles flexing as he prepared to get up off the bench. She had the folder in her left hand, but in her right, she had her specially designed pocketbook which concealed a Berretta Pico 380 with a silencer. The gun was loaded with "Precision One" 90 grain XTP, not much good at a distance but extremely effective at close range. Cinnamon turned suddenly and Edmond almost ran into her. She had her hand inside the secret compartment of the pocketbook which was now leveled at his chest. But Edmond didn't notice, he smiled, she was pretty and her hands were full making it easy for him. As he pulled the Tazer out of his pocket Cinnamon fired two rounds point blank into his chest, the impact knocked him backward and the smile disappeared from his face and the expression of shock took its place. Without emotion, Cinnamon stepped up and aimed the muzzle of the Berretta at his head, two more hollowpoints made their way through the carefully designed hole in the side of her stylish pocketbook and made neat round holes in Edmond's forehead, but he was already beyond knowing.
She placed the plastic covered folder on his chest where the first two bullets had penetrated and pulled his hands up to hold it in place. Then she took a fresh cinnamon stick out of her jacket pocket and dropped it into his gaped open mouth, as she looked intently into his eyes that were staring blankly up at the darkening sky. Cinnamon had felt guilt over the first two perverts that she had killed, but thoughts of the lives that she was saving had long ago washed that feeling away. Now she enjoyed her calling in life, yes she actually embraced it and even relished the fact that she did more good with a few days of research and a couple of dollars worth of bullets than the police or the legal system could do with their huge budget and thousands of man-hours. A few more like her she thought, and we could actually clean up our towns and make them safe for families again.

**Disclaimer: I often use the freewrite prompt to tell a story instead of doing a pure freewrite, so they sometimes take longer than 5 minutes and usually have some editing. But I try to do my story straight through at one sitting without any unnecessary breaks.

Thay's taking the law into your own hands in style!
Wow, quite an intense session, hehe. Dark vigilantes, interesting. Just finished watching Luke Cage again so this fit way too well.
I like a good vigilante story occasionally, there have been times in the past when things like that have become necessary as corrupt Governments have failed to do their duty and actually begin to contribute to open crime against the innocent public.
There's always that line, a very scary one, where the rules of society begin to disintegrate because the people feel those who are supposed to be in power aren't doing their job... Chaos is just a step away all the time.
That's right, and that is the great danger of corruption. What do people do when they have no legal recourse? There is nothing left but to become supra-legal and take matters into their own hands. A person's Government then becomes anarchy, each person or group of people fending for themselves and doing what is right in their own eyes. It is terrible, especially for the weak and helpless! 🙁
Tribalism...
Exactly, today we call them gangs lol. 🤔
I think the formation of gangs is a slightly more complex socio-economic issue, but that's like super long post and I'm about to go hiking....lol. But, agreed that there are certain anti-social organizations that spring up to deal with perceived inequalities or defense.
LoL, agreed. 😃
WOWWWWWWW! HOLY WOWWWWWWW!
