RE: "Wearing Masks" – A Reflection Inspired by Severus Snape (Five Minute Freewrite)

in #freewrite6 years ago

What a great post! I always wondered if J.K. Rowling decided several books in to redeem Snapes, or if she knew from the very start that this was the direction he was heading. As an author, I couldn't allow him to dish out all that verbal abuse. It's a weakness of parents and writers alike - this desire to protect our protagonists and our offspring from suffering or from being hated and misunderstood.
Now, that song... phew! - I was worried it'd stick in my head if I dared listen, but it has none of the "stick" factor that Dr. Horrible has (the Whedon brothers - so addicting, I bought the DVD and the CD!).

Sort:

JK Rowling has said that she always knew Snake would be redeemed - she even told Alan Rickman about it, when he was preparing to play Snape for the first time. No one else knew about Snape's secret back then, as the seventh book had not yet been released. However, she revealed the secret to Alan Rickman so that he would have that information available to him, and he later spoke about how it influenced his performance. I can remember reading the whole story somewhere, though I don't remember where. 🤔

I have heard Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog before - it is SO catchy. 😂😂 Thanks for reminding me about it!

Oooh, I hadn't heard that story about Rowling and Rickman. Awesome!!!

You sound like me - " I can remember reading the whole story somewhere, though I don't remember where. 🤔" Ha! love it!
