My Grandpa Story : Day 262: 5 Minute Freewrite

A story was told to me by grandpa before he died, he has a bullet wound to his back to attest to his act of valour in those days. A well respected fellow among his friends.
During the second World War, the allied force were closing in on winning, our country been under the territory of the Britain, soldiers were recruited to serve as infantry in the war.

He told me of how there supplies were cut off by the German army, left with nothing to eat, the soldiers became tired and reluctant to move forward. To make the matter worse, the lieutenant in charge had issues with the blacks, foods were readily available to the white folks but to them, it was rationed to the barest minimal.

Grandpa told me of how they held there stomach empty and fought on in the gruesome heat of the battle.

Every morning the soldiers all lined up to bid to dead friends goodbye by burying them, in the middle of the prayer, the priest looked keenly at the blacks and told them.

"Today, you'll eat and be filled "

But none of them could understand, to them it's as if the priest is making mockery of there hungry status, been an illiterate.

The battle for the fort waxed hotter in the afternoon, then we heard a heavy bomb, after, silence, just as the priest has fortold we looked as supplies were parachuted to us by a heavy duty aircraft, we ate, drank, have enough to keep.

The story as told by grandpa is meant to teach us that in everything, God is in there.
