Bombshell - a stream of consciousness poem for Freewrite # 174 - vandals
Greetings fellow Steemians! Here is my 39th 5 minute freewrite. The prompt is: "vandals".
(Full disclosure: This piece took me significantly longer than 5 minutes to write)
Freewriting is a daily practice for most poets and fiction writers, designed to loosen up and get things flowing, like stretching before exercise. Visual artists, especially those who draw or paint from life (figures, landscapes, still lives, etc) do something similar in "gesture drawings". After reading several of @poetrybyjeremy's freewrite posts, I got excited to try these again. Many thanks to @mariannewest for hosting this daily freewrite!

Bombshell
The distinction between vandalism
And the creation of something beautiful
Exists in asking
Whether the thing broken
Is freed in the breaking.
It makes no difference whether that thing is a wall
A window
A train car
A field of grain
A street sign
A bathroom stall
A clean sheet of paper
A heart.
You haven't asked
Inadvertent vandal.
What reason would you have to?
But the answer is
Yes.

Interesting ... yes I would say whether the object is elevated or denigrated:)
exactly.
I made free use of poetic license in the word choice here... but this poem is actually more of a question than an answer, despite the ending. So it's good if it provokes further examination :)
