So, lemme blow your mind a bit.

Being yourself is easy. Not being yourself is hard.

It’s easy for any man to be instinctive. Instinct is animalistic. It is easy to say what you think because that is the default. It is the first thing that comes to your mind. It is easy to obey your urges and succumb to the easy dictates of your whims.

Saying what you think is easy. Easy is also another word for lazy.

However, it is incredibly hard to rein in your baser instincts. To shut up when the urge is to speak. To inspect ones opinion for quality and sanity. It is difficult to not call a stupid man stupid, to sit and listen to the mad man, to assume that there are things you do not immediately know and might need to read up on.

Our society is quick to place real men and women on a pedestal. By “real men and women” they meant uncouth, provocative, ill-mannered, temperamental and entitled people who do not add value.

However, the survival of the society is hinged on the discretion of the unreal people that listen, that do not blurt out what they think, that exercise self-control and think deeply about the effects of their words and actions on other people.

I made a commitment to myself at the start of 2018 to always allow the passage of 30 seconds before I react to a post or respond to issues. I find out that after 30 seconds, I think healthier thoughts and have more balance. Sometimes after 30 seconds, I find that the stakes in the discourse doesn’t even warrant my contribution.

I also committed to read up more on the things I don’t understand before making a post on it or responding.

I owe it to people to not be instinctive. I owe it to my friends to take their feelings into account in my posts and my opinions.

That is why I apologize easily not just because time is going but also because there is no law that says I must be right 100% at all times.

Let’s make a commitment to be unreal sometimes. Leave being egocentrically real to touts.
