Freewrite #3 - Is water conservation so important?

in #freewrite6 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemians! Hope you are doing good. Today I was having a detailed conversation with one of the managers from a different team in my office. The conversation covered many topics starting with the necessity of preserving natural resources to cryptocurrencies. During our discussion, we were talking in detail about the water conservation. We are actually from a City/State in India that has lots of water problems during peak summer. I have been seeing this problem for the past few years even in my area. Even though we had a megaflood couple of years back in Chennai, the next year again we had water problems in Chennai city.

If we do a deep analysis we will be able to arrive in different situations. There are several factors contributing to the scarcity of water in Chennai city. I will try to describe some of the key factors:

Failure to harvest rainwater

Though we all know that rain is the primary source of water everywhere around the world, we still fail to preserve or harvest the rainwater. Some people might ask why we will have to preserve rainwater as anyways water will go and mix only in the ground. There is the main reason why we have to harvest rainwater. If we don't really care about the rainwater and let it go away, it usually mixes with sewage water and gets accumulated in a lake or area lots of distance away from our locality. It is the common nature of water to flow from a high-level area to low lying region. Harvesting rainwater will help the water go inside the ground below our house. This will help in increasing the groundwater level in the house. This is an individual concern and this issue should be sorted out by the members of the family. There are factors concerning the locality.

Poor Infrastructure

In most of the places, lakes are being converted into giant buildings. In such cases, the big buildings suck lots of water every day and end up leaving water scarcity during the summer season. I would say that construction of house without proper ground space to pass the harvested rainwater is going to leave us with water scarcity during the summer season. In most of the places when water is not having space to get stored, it becomes a flood.

While constructing the houses even the flat owners and the builders don't even care about leaving a small space in the flat for open ground. Without this facility, most of the flats are finding it very difficult to do groundwater harvesting and they end up wasting all the rainwater by without collecting and preserving them. The government should also impose a strict rule and standard procedure for everyone to construct their houses properly.

No Trees

Trees are the major contributing factor for rains as well as keeping the environment fit to live. Trees are capable of calling the clouds when there is a need. They know how to communicate with the clouds to get their support when needed. Trees also help us at the time of the flood. In unexpected situations like the flood, trees around us will drink lots of water through their roots. In very tough situations they even shed all their leaves by absorbing lots of water from the ground. If there are no trees it can take several months to recover from floods. Trees also help in the conservation of groundwater.

From the looks of it, there is going to be a high level of difficulty in future for water. The water sources have been reducing gradually for the past few years. This is definitely creating lots of imbalance in nature thus leaving our locality with enough water. We need not until the government to take some conservation projects for us. Every individual is capable of doing proper conservation of water. Only those who have travelled several miles to bring water for their day to day activity know the significance of water.

There have been lots of awareness recently on the importance of conservation of water. Let us see how this is going to be in the future.

I feel conservation of water and energy is so important in all possible ways. What do you think about this topic? Share your views in the comments section.

Thanks for being here!!

THE CONSERVATION OF WATER IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL LIVING AND HUMAN BEINGS, WE MUST TAKE AWARENESS AND CARE AND NOT CONTAMINATE THEM. WE ARE ECOLOGISTS MAKING ACTIBUTIES OF TAKING AWARENESS ABOUT THIS GREAT THEME, WATER IS LIFE .. !! I CONGRATULATE YOU FOR YOUR POST GREETINGS FROM VENEZUELA.

Thanks for the comments @wendyth16. Yes, I also believe that it is the responsibility of every individual to be self aware about this necessity of preserving our natural resources. 😀

But @Bala41288, don't get disheartened by the current situation. It may not seem like it but I have come across some people who are actually willing to invest into harvesting rainwater. Andaman is also started suffering from the lower groundwater level and there are independent contractors who are offering designs regarding conservation of rainwater for sufficient for a couple of households.

I still do not see it going in the right way @inuke. Especially the increasing number of flats with no proper open ground surface is not going to help in conserving water even if we get full rains or floods. Even the roads are now concrete with zero possibility to absorb rainwater.

@bala41288, I see where you are coming from but still there are lot of things that are at Testing levels.. unfortunately like you said the growth in these part are nothing infront of the population boom and the water demand..

Despite the fact that we cant do without water, water sometimes turn out to be difficult to find.water scarcity is not only in india but nigeria also. I think working on streams around us to make it clean will also help to prevent water scarcity

We used to have wells dug earlier. Today the concept of wells are gone now. There is no way water can reach ground today because of concrete floors everywhere. People are looking for shortcuts to have bores instead of wells because it saves lots of space. They don't understand the consequences. Let's see where it is going to take us. Thanks for the comments @oluwashinaayomi.😀

Without water we can say goodbye to our existence

Nothing can survive here without water. You are so right @punxi. Thanks for the comments. 😀
