5-minute Freewrite: Prompt- Atlas

As I was walking alongside the beach one evening, listening to the waves as they crush the shore, I stumbled upon an antique looking case half buried in the sand. I don't usually touch or pick up random stuff that lies around the beach for fear that it could belong to someone. If it's rubbish, I'll be bummed.

It looks pretty worn out from the sand and sea water. Must have been soaked for sometime, but it was tight shut so with curiosity getting the best of me I've decided to pry it open. A letter. How cliché. I wonder why people like doing things like this; sending out random letters and throwing stuff on the beach or into the sea, don't they know it's called littering and all this rubbish amounts to death to a lot of sea creatures? But just as I opened the folded envelope, a compass dropped out. There was a name, John.

"Dear Jane, alas you're gone. No matter how hard I fought for our future, you left without a trace. You knew it was a tough war at the sea, me being in the marine would mean that I have to be constantly away on missions. You said you would wait for me, a promise I still hold dearly with my heart. Rough waters couldn't hold me, but it seemed that the waiting was too hard and you've chosen your battle. I hope this box finds its way back to your heart, because you have taken mine since the day we met. You'll always be my Atlas, and I hope to always be your compass. Come home to me, and may the compass be your guide. With love, John"

It was dated 5th of March 1967. There's an address and a special coordination on another piece of paper. Maybe I'll do the honor of searching out more information on the whereabouts of this place. It'd be nice to see the story continue.
