Nothing's Lost, Everything's Transformed

Sometimes I wish I was a weirdo. Well, for some I am, and even for myself, but wait, it's not what you're thinking about. For sure. It's something that maybe you'd wished before, or something that will make you smile about, with that thought in your mind saying this guy has a point, after you get to read the whole post, so don't rush on judgement or closing tab clicks.

That type of weirdo that I am referring to is the one not using social media, not spending tons of hours every year, simply doing nothing, but swiping pages to burn minutes not calories. The type that doesn't unlock his smartphone, with no reason at all and ends up jumping from one app to another till muscular fever kicks in. This weirdo that I refer to has the eyes and ears for for anything else than the above mentioned activities. He can see birds on the sky, ships on the sea and children play around him.

Am I that type? No. Do I wish to become one? Kind of, but not quite like that. I still feel like using my smartphone and not getting to an old Nokia...because it is smart and it can do things, useful things, but I don't want to charge it twice a day for no "practicality excessive usage". I still feel like using my laptop, but not for tons of youtube videos and endless conimarketcap and Steemit refreshing pages, with a few pauses filled with twitter feeds.

I haven't become that guy though, the normal one, over night, or since last year, it is a process that worked me for years and tamed me into becoming the not weirdo one. The one that doesn't read books in public, but scrolls feeds, the one that doesn't looks too much at people when waiting in line, but checks crypto prices and comments on Steemit. I know it's the new social media and money internet that I'm interested at, not like the other plebs, but still time wasted.

I can blame Facebook, instagram, unlimited internet data and youtube for that... and myself. These apps have gradually helped me in becoming a professional time waster and although the blue pill ones are out of the equation, for more than two years, youtube is still a king in time wasting and the marks left on my neuronal circuits from Facebook have managed to be given similar purposes.

As a somehow new year's resolution I am working on changing all those and, even if needed, smartphone usage and laptop usage will be transformed into education, rather than distraction/wasting time. I know that wasting time, as if we would have endless loads of it, has become the main activity of the millennials, I will waste it, or at least try to, for educational purposes.

For example: youtube can be used to learn or perfect a foreign language, to learn some skills, or simply listen my favorite music channels, it doesn't have to be just random videos consumed in bulks. I have quite a few pdf books as well, waiting in a folder, and spending some time behind the laptop screen reading them wouldn't be wasted time. None is worth missing I promise.

Regarding my smartphone, the best tasks that I see for it are, of course, talks and chats, tacking pics when necessary and the regular mails and googles, when necessarily... Yes, I won't ignore a comment or a reply on Steem, but I won't be chasing them and constantly opening eSteem to check if any waits for me.

Maybe for some of you, all of these might be just nonsense and I get you. You probably have better things to do, but for my currently high amount of free time, is a blessing/curse and sometimes such gadgets end up consuming me, more than I consume them. However, becoming aware of that...again and again, it might be the time to actually do something about, and probably this might transform into a one new year resolution that will become a reality. Why not...
