Garlic, The Best Remedy Against Garden Pests (Garlic Recipe Included)
Garlic is one of the best natural pesticides and fungicides. A gardener simply can’t go without.
Thi is a translation of my previous article in Dutch, which you can find here

A garlic extract can help you to get rid of carrot flies, aphids, slugs and loads of other annoying garden-insects.
By spraying your vegetables with a garlic extract you can prevent butterflies from laying eggs, so you won’t have to deal with hundreds of caterpillars.
It is also an excellent fungus repellent and protects the roots from your plants.
How To Make A Garlic Extract
Brewing this potion that almost magically protects your garden is actually very easy.
What do you need?
- 2 garlic bulbs
- 1 liter of water
- A fine sieve
What to do
Break the garlic bulbs into cloves and crush them. You don’t need to peel them first.
Boil the water
When the water is boiling, put the crushed cloves in it. Let them boil for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes, take them off the stove. Let it cool down for at least 24 hours.
Use the sieve to separate the liquid from the cooked cloves of garlic.
Pour the liquid into a bottle and store in a dark place.
Making A Garlic Spray
The extract you just made is too strong to be used directly on your plants. You’ll have to mix it with water before you can use it.
What do you need
- A spray bottle
- Your garlic extract
- Cayenne pepper
- Mild liquid soap
Let’s get to it
Fill up your spray bottle with water.
Add 3 tablespoons of your garlic extract.
Add 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper.
Add 1 tablespoon of your liquid soap.
Close your bottle and shake it,
The best time to use the spray is after sundown, so the leaves of your plants won’t get burned.
Spray your plants - don’t forget to spray both sides of the leaves - and the surrounding soil.
Repeat every 2 to 3 weeks. You can use this spray as a preventive measure.

This is amazing and very useful information. Living in the Philippines and no winter, makes bugs an extra nuisance. Will try the garlic extract.
Thank you! Upvoted already following you!
Garlic has anti-bacterial properties because of its high sulfur content! Thanks for sharing!
