1st WORLD FORUM on URBAN FORESTS

I'm really happy to write this article because finally something is moving in favor of the environment, we are becoming aware of the fact that we have to change our impact on the environment.
From 28 November to 1 December 2018 Mantova hosted the first "World Forum on Urban Forests", promoted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (Fao), organized by the Lombard Municipality, the Polytechnic of Milan and the Italian Society of Silviculture and Forest Ecology, together with an International Scientific Committee of Experts led by architect and urban planner Stefano Boeri and Cecil Konijnendijk of British Columbia.

What would they have ever talked about in this forum?

Change the face of our cities to make them more sustainable places investing in GREEN SPACES.

Do you know that over half the world's population lives in urban centers?

And according to the United Nations this number will rise considerably to 70 % by 2050.

Yet do you know that cities occupy only 3% of the Planet's surface?

We will be getting closer and closer to the cities of the future, thinking that already today those who live in cities already consume 75% of the natural resources.
We hear about lately how governments around the world must act on pollution, climate change, renewable energy.
But the World Forum on Urban Forests focused attention on a fundamental theme:

the benefits of urban forests.

Yes, because to bring the green in the gray polluted and overcrowded city, it will give benefits to the whole population: both in terms of economic growth - sustainable growth - and environmental conservation leading to social cohesion and involvement of citizens.

But are forests so indispensable?

In addition to allowing us to survive by providing oxygen, forests are also a resource as they provide 40% of global renewable energies in the form of wood fuel and derivatives, as do combined solar, hydro and wind energy.
Calculating that every 10% increase in tree cover in cities can lead to a potential ozone reduction of 3-7%, therefore an improvement in our health, but also an increase in sustainable economic growth.
The 400 experts from over 50 countries throughout the world spoke about this, bringing each one their own scientific research, experiences and potential solutions.

Vertical forests are already a reality in the world and are spreading more and more, below some examples from cervolers.com :

LOSANNA

NETHERLANDS

CHINA

I want to close my post with the words of Stefano Boeri, co-chair of the scientific committee of WFUF, architect and Professor at the Polytechnic University of Milan and Tongji University of Shanghai:

"Bringing forests into cities is one of the most effective tools to reduce catastrophic effects of climate change and designing a better future for future generations."

I am very sensitive to the theme of the environment and ongoing climate change.
That's why I try to share and spread news on the fact that our Planet is at a point of No Return, this is why we are responsible for reducing our environmental impact for ourselves and future generations.
Below there are some of my posts on the environmental topic.

- I - POINT OF NO RETURN.
We consume too early every year the planet's resources.

- II - POINT OF NO RETURN PART 2.
We must move now or never again.

- III - GREEN ATTITUDE TIME!
Small Daily Steps to follow.
