When the electorate is uninformed, or often mis-informed, their choices become limited to brand recognition. This is a brand they trust to entertain them, and much like the Trump brand, is one they will likely now trust to make laws for them. Or, at least trust more than a 'politcian' whose background and experience immediately disqualifies them from trust in their eyes.
Personally, I'd love to see more scientists and engineers run for office. But, then I realize most scientists and engineers don't want to surround themselves with bureaucracy - or explain the internet to a bunch of septuagenarians.
