Ghost Gunner II, now finishing pistols.

in #freedom7 years ago (edited)

Cody Wilson has long been a favourite of mine.

He was the first to 3D print a working pistol, the 'Liberator' and uploaded the plans online where they were immediately torrented thousands of times.

He and the other guys at Defense Distributed also manufactured;

The Ghost Gunner.

For those unaware, the only part of an AR15 assault rifle which is regulated in the US, is the lower receiver, which is just a piece of machined steel or aluminium. Blocks of metal aren't regulated, so the USG had to make a ruling on how far a block of metal could be machined before being officially considered a lower receiver. They settled on 80%.

The ghost gunner was designed for one purpose; machining readily available, unregistered, rough, unusable 80% receivers into functional lower receivers.
They sold thousands of ghost gunners, each of which is capable of manufacturing thousands of unregistered AR 15's.

Now they've just announced they're doing the same with pistols. Both the 1911 and the Glock 19 can be taken from 80% lowers and machined into functional components with the ghost gunner 2, and the free included software.

Now I realise not all of my followers will consider this good news; but even if you're not a fan of civilian firearm ownership; this is a big blow to violent gun smuggling cartels (at least in the US.)

Decentralisation will continue to render the state and it's regulatory frameworks redundant.
Uber destroyed taxis. Airbnb is destroying hotels. Bitcoin is destroying the banks.
Steemit is destroying Facebook and Reddit.
Now home handymen can build their own pistols without permission.

What an incredible time to be alive

As always, have a fantastic day.

Wow. Awesome stuff.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. If Governments have all the guns none of us are safe, great post matt thanks for sharing, cheers.

One huge important detail that most people have never been aware of is that criminal gangs and mafia get fully automatic ready to go AKs straight off the boat from China.

The ban on guns is only, and has only, been for disarming law abiding citizens.

Assuming everyone who partakes in cryptocurrency understands that currency centralized to a very small number of people and institutions with links to and through their own governments, why would they view guns any different.

Regardless of that, as a CNC machinist, I find this very cool.

Could you elaborate on how this is a detriment to cartels? I'm not sure I understand that part of the article. Thanks for your time and followed.

Thanks @jinmi17. Appreciate the feedback.
Cartels organise to smuggle goods into places they're prohibited, so selling them at a markup.
This damages that business model, since individuals can now more easily manufacture pistols privately, the price will come down and smuggling will be less profitable.

Perhaps. It could also contribute to that market. Many shady folks would love to get their hands on an unregistered working firearm. That could even be happening already.

Appreciate the discussion.

True. As the price decreases the demand increases; but I'm sure the cartels would prefer to profit from 5000 customers than to break even on 10000 customers.

Sure, wherever the economics demand. Point being, causing a net loss of profit, and if you can do that via a few changes in law, win-win.

I have made two pistols from scratch. Gun ownership is my right. Why?,,because I am an intelligent Adult that has NEVER pointed a gun at a human. EVER. But I have the moral obligation to protect my family.

I made my second,, scratch-built pistol,,this past year. It is a miniature gun,,single shot---- .22 LR.
Back of grip ,,to end of barrel end. Is 3.0 inches,,=76.20mm.

I'm not into guns (at all) but the whole decentralisation perspective is new to me and interesting.

Whether you're excited or horrified, it's good to know what's going on, and speculate on where it might be going.

Excellent article, a lot of interesting learned from you about firearms. Thank you @mattclarke

More pistols will make us safer (not fewer pistols).

I'm not a 'gun' nut.
I'm a 'people making their own decisions based on their own knowledge of their own skills, shortcomings and circumstances' nut.
And I like to think I'm fairly consistent in that.

The more guns that exist, the greater the disincentive for any individual to use one exists.

People get nervous around guns.
People planning or considering an act for which they deserve to be shot, get really nervous around guns.
