A Strategy for Cobden & Bright - representing a party of no party

Cobden and Bright will run on a modest, simple and practical platform, favoring smaller government and individual choice.

What if Cobden and Bright were to tell everyone this:

We are collecting verifiable pledges that you will either vote for us or consider voting according to our recommendation.

At election time, If we think we can win, or get enough electoral votes to throw the election into the House, we will ask for your vote.

If we think we cannot win, we will recommend one of the candidates who is likely to win, and will ask you to vote for that person. We will prefer the candidate who seems to us likely to do the least harm.

We will support our recommendation with detailed written reasons for our preference.

Suppose Cobden and Bright were to collect a few million independently verifiable pledges.

If the election seemed to be close enough that a few million votes might determine the outcome, Cobden and Bright’s recommendation might be decisive.

This would be newsworthy. It would be noticed by leading candidates. They might be asked, “What can you do for us?”

This strategy will establish the influence of the party of liberty.
