PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WITHOUT DEMOCRATIC GUARANTEES AGAINST THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS OF THE VENEZUELAN PEOPLE
I must clarify that this statement was not written by me.
It was written by the Venezuelan Association of University Rectors (AVERU) and I publish it here because I think it must reach many who do not know what is happening and those who know should be aware of the position of the Universities in Venezuela..
The Venezuelan Association of University Rectors (AVERU), addresses the country before the anticipated Presidential election scheduled for May 20, 2018, disregarding the call of the people of Venezuela to postpone the electoral process and focus on the solution of the social drama that threatens in becoming in the short term a humanitarian crisis.
The call for the election of the President of the Republic in the second quarter of 2018, made by the de facto National Constituent Assembly through an electoral process without conditions of impartiality, transparency, reliability, fairness, auditability and political disqualifications, constitutes a call for to the suffrage not knowing the popular sovereignty and violating universal democratic precepts that does not guarantee the peace and the progress that Venezuela demands.
The political crisis that the country suffers prevents the full functioning of the State, causing the institutions responsible for the basic needs of the population not to fulfill their functions, generating in the people of Venezuela a socio-economic devastation that has led to the beginning of a catastrophe humanitarianism palpably painful in the diet and health of Venezuelans.
For this reason, the anticipated realization of elections without democratic guarantees, avoiding the immediate attention of living conditions, health and the deterioration of civil and political liberties lead the country to a situation of imminent social and economic instability, increasing poverty in sectors of the population that together with the decomposition of the family environment increases the dismantling of the Venezuelan family and undermines the fundamental basis of the Nation.
As the Venezuelan Association of University Rectors, we ratify the call to reflection of those who have the duty to guide and direct without individual interests the reins of the country from the various political, economic, social and religious sectors, since Venezuela demands our commitment to solidarity and disinterested in moments of affliction of those who suffer misery, diseases and governmental desolation.
The catastrophe that threatens the Nation can not be confronted with a call for early elections without having a purpose that glimpses that the priority is the well-being of the people, and it is an unavoidable duty to address the misery that threatens the peace and tranquility of the citizens, so which postpone the electoral process is a democratic, sovereign and constitutional mandate that Venezuela demands.
