The "Alt-Right": Left or Right?

On our one dimensional scale here in the USA, political orientation makes strange bedfellows - or rumors thereof.

In the radical street battles over free speech and racism, among other things, "far right" outliers are going to battle with "far left" outliers. But this is really a continuation of Antifa attacking anyone they deem Nazis - including anyone who publicly supports Trump.

First of all, the definition of "Alt-Right" is so amorphous as to be almost meaningless. Originally it could have been construed as a loose group of people who want to distance themselves from mainstream, milk-toast, establishment Republicans. But some racists swiftly swooped in, co-opted the term, and those on the left quickly obliged. If gave the left a bigger brush to convincingly paint all Trump supporters are racist. Everything the left decided was anti-establishment, anti-left, anti-statist was quickly called "alt-right" and therefore racist, sexist, etc. But for thinking Americans, the "Alt-Right" has been restricted now to radical racism.

Second, the current narrative paints Nazis, the KKK, and other radical "right wing" groups as being far to the right. But is that really true? If you opposed anything that is deemed necessary for minorities or illegal immigrants, then you are branded racist and on the at the least far right - and most likely "alt-right."

Even in our one dimensional way of portraying politics, is the "alt-right" even on the right? Are they distant enough from the left based on a singular issue? This is a confusing soup of terms, shifting alliances and sensibilities, and radical thought.

Third, are the current crop of Nazis and racially-focused white groups actually right wing. Our current take on defining Nazis comes from the conflict with international socialism centered in Russia, where international socialism really evolved into national socialism by another name. Stalin label fascism "right wing," and the label stuck. By in almost every measure, fascism and national socialism is a left-wing concept. It is a statist regime with collectivist control of property as opposed to collectivist ownership of property. This one fact lays bare the difficulty of having a one dimensional political spectrum.

Fourth, is Antifa actually antifascist?

TO BE CONTINUED

Sort:

Antifa is a radicalized hate group that promotes and deploys violence to silence free speech and create division among the citizenry.

Fascism is right wing. the political map isn't a diagonal line from communism to ancap child slavery.

real fascists came about as a response to liberalism, your libertarian philosophy you think is muh true right wing values which are just conservatism, democratic socialism, and leftist. They came as a response to the decadence of these politics much like we are seeing right now in America and all across the world., and this isn't the first time this has happened, you'd be a fool to think democratic socialism and liberalism have destroyed a civilization. no this is not the first time it's happened before, and when it happened in Italy and Weimar Germany, fascism and national socialism stopped it you can't be against decadence and be a leftist.

Who are the real fascists?

Do you really think fascism was a response to decadence, when it is widely know that many of the fascists would be considered decadent by common sense (Ernt Rohm, Hitler, Goering, etc.)? And Germany kept producing consumer items that were considered decadent by the USA during a time of war.

How can you say that fascism is right wing? What is your evidence?

What diagonal line political map are you refering to? Link?

Fascism based in romantic philsophy: civic duty, natural law, and strength in unity while the left is based in enlightenment liberalism and rights of the individual which leads to Marxism rather civic duty to one's race, which is the only true nation. The right is Eugenics, and the left is dysgenic which is why one destroys civlizations and the other builds empires.

I'm sure you are someone who thinks Monarchism is left wing as well, showing you have an ulterior motive of labeling anything more authoritarian than Max Stirner leftist so there isn't an argument to be had here to begin with.

The diagonal line is the flattening your side of the fence does the political chart, you put fascism, monarchism on the left with Marxism, and anarchism on the right making it a diagonal line from communism to ancap child slavery like I said. Chart below is the argument you are making is flat out wrong.

I'm moonlighting, so I don't have time to give a fully reasoned response right now. But I can't help to smile in a self-satisfied way that your response included a one-dimension political scale, since an element of my main argument is that in the USA we depend on (or are hamstrung) by a one-dimension political scale. So in the meantime, I admire your contribution.

Food for thought in the meantime:

Fair enough my dude respect you are willing to have an argument rather than the other response I've gotten on this site where someone was so petty to downvote all my posts since I joined only a few days ago. 😂
