New App Lets You Bet For Free And Earn Gift Cards
Ah Betting. That thrilling feeling of putting your money on something you’re positively certain will happen, just makes some people’s blood rush. Although putting a bet on sports, the future, or anything for that matter is fun, it can become quiet expensive. So expensive, that some end up with drained pockets by the end of the night. But, what if I told you there was an app where you could bet for free, and in return earn gift cards?
The app Play The Future introduces a new way of wagering by letting the player predict the outcomes of sponsored real life events, and in return the top prediction earns the gift card listed as the prize for that post. All for free! Developed in March of 2017, and available on the Apple App Store and Google Play, the description reads:
While the reviews were all pretty good.
(Except for the person who didn’t know there was an option not to share their predictions on Facebook)
With these astronomical claims, I decided to give the app a try myself. And this is what I found.
After signing up, you are greeted with a loading screen that appears to be quiet colorful, and modern in a quirky way.
When the app loads, smooth rectangle looking things pop up. On the top, they read the subject you will be predicting. To the bottom left corner it tells you what range your answer should be in, kind of like a clue. Then in the bottom right corner, there is an extra clue, but you must use a key to access it.
Don’t worry though, you have 3 free keys to start out with.
After answering all the predictions, there is a timer screen that tells you when more predictions will be posted. This can range from 1 to 5 hours depending on the day.
Now I have discovered a flaw in this app, that might be helpful to some people. When you answer a question, it brings you to the “share this with your friends screen” if you want to move on. However, if you’re like me, you feel game invites are annoying so why be the social parasite that gives them to others? There is a way to avoid that. By simply tapping on the search bar, above the bubble icons, the app will crash, and if you open the app again, your prediction is saved without sharing it with a friend.
The prize section, that can be accessed by tapping the question mark in the bottom left corner and then tapping the “Prizes” section, changes from time to time. Right now, the prize for the top player of the week is a shelfies gift card. While there are different gift cards for the top player in a certain category. (Ex: The prize for the top player in commerce is an e-gift card, the prize for sports is a yoga gift card, etc.)
The Results section shows the results of the predictions you’ve made. It gives you charts, the percentage of players you did better than, and your spot on the leader board.
You can also see the predictions you made that are upcoming.
Another cool feature I liked was the accuracy score above your profile. (As you can see a lot of bad predictions have brought my score down.)
All in all, the app is smooth, the design is great, and the concept is something that is new to the app market. I would rate this a 5 out of 5, if it weren’t for the choice of sharing with your friends, or crashing completely. Therefor, this app gets a 4 out of 5 stars.
*Please note that this was NOT a sponsored app review.
