Frankly Speaking, the Illusion is ego.

The same can be said for culture (which is just a collective ego) in that people can sometimes think of culture as an indefinite "perpetuation of the past" even though logically we know all elements of culture were at one point novel and did not appear as a result of "perpetuating the past" but rather through a creative and intuitive process that stepped into something new and unseen which subsequently subverted a preexisting or previously accepted system.

This process of creation of the new and subsequent subversion of the old is a universal constant however it is often just slow enough to keep beings like us (who are embedded within it's phenomenal processing) entranced in the illusory notion that its fulfillment is a process of destruction rather than creation and so we build up tremendous resistance to it.

We forsake our expansive and all encompassing conscious awareness for a kind of shortsighted but practical ignorance that gives way to the belief that a tool that is in actuality only needed at one point or one time is rather needed indefinitely for all points and for all time.
