Can A Deal Between Trump and Rouhani Even Happen? Macron's Wasted Effort?

in #france5 years ago

"Two things are very important for us: Iran must never have nuclear weapons, and this situation should never threaten regional stability," - French President Macron

At the G7-Summit, President Emmanuel Macron revealed that there are preparations underway for the two countries leaders, Rouhani of Iran, and Trump of the US, to meet and reach a solution to the nuclear deal crisis. Since Trump's withdrawal from the Nuclear Deal, the two countries have had a back and forth of threats, sanctions, GOT memes, minor attacks, and more. The entire world has been involved and there has been worry of war because of this with both leaders warning they will retaliate if necessary. Macron's goal is to end this crisis.

"What I hope is that in coming weeks, based on these talks, we can manage to see a summit between President Rouhaini and President Trump."
Mr Trump and Mr Rouhani are both expected to be at the UN General Assembly in New York at the end of September.
The US President said that he was ready to meet Mr Rouhani in the right "circumstances". He later told a separate press conference that it did sound realistic for him to meet Mr Rouhani within weeks.

While Trump said he was ready he did also state that this doesn't mean he'll be lifting any economic sanctions on Iran at this time. Trump said:

“I have a good feeling. I think he (Rouhani) is going to want to meet and get their situation straightened out. They are hurting badly,” Trump said.

While this could be good news, Iran's decision is not ultimately up to Rouhani, but to their Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who showed a large amount of distrust in the original Nuclear Deal worked out by Obama, so the outcome of this will ultimately fall to his decision.

Now while one report says Trump was ready for this, another says the opposite. Aljazeera reports:

"I knew he was coming," Trump said of the visit. "I knew everything he [Macron] was doing and I approved everything he was doing," Trump said, adding the French president "asked for my approval".
The US president did say, however, he did not think the time was right yet for him to sit with Zarif.
"It's too soon to meet, I didn't want to," Trump said, adding that he wants to see a "strong Iran" and that he was not looking for regime change in the country.

So is this all going to just be a wasted effort? We all know the old verse about peace and safety, so even if this works, can it be trusted? How long would it last? It wouldn't do anything for Iran's constant lust to destroy Israel, an ally to the US. One solution will not stop what has been written for Israel to fall. Whether this plan of Macron's works or not is all up to God. What do you think? Leave your thoughts below!
