What is Framing ?

in #framing9 years ago (edited)

Today I wrote an article using different perspective and switched protogonists and antogonists. You can find it here. Framing is a common technique mostly getting used in newspapers social media and television. It is basicly an act of choosing the narrative.

There are 2 perspectives one is sociological other one is socio-pshychological in framing. The things said in framing might be completely different than the actual frame. Framing is not only getting used in news , however it has a broad application areas like , economy , politics and public relations.

Well sorry for being cheesy but this is the only image that comes to mind and in every case study this is the picture used when someone is trying to explain framing.

Well eventhough the image itself is pretty self explanatory. However the main idea of framing is simple if you see the left side of the photo you are most likely going to think these soldiers are cruel. However if you see right side of the photo you are going to think that what a lovely mercifull soldier giving water to another soldier. However in order to understand full event going on in there you have to see the complete photo and it is nearly impossible because none of the newspapers publish it that way , because they need some kind of narrative to attract the audience.

It is quite hard to notice a good framing and it may manipulate people quite easily , even a someone above average intelligence won't notice it. Even the framing master Daniel Kahneman said that he won't understand a good framing.

You can watch that part of the interview from here

Well if we can't understand framing and the people in media sector won't stop using it ? How are we going to get truth ? The answer to this question is pretty simple just improve your media literacy skills and critical thinking it will help you in the cloud of fake news in everywhere. Because we are living in an era which we can't avoid getting exposed to media materials everyday.

Thanks for Reading & Hasta La Vista!

it is interesting the way in which the message changes according to the persecution

Yeah after world war 2 and propaganda activity . Most of the communication specialists were trying to deliver message in most affective way and were measuring the impact of it in the masses

Very good article

very good comment

Thank you

Great example. I like that term media literacy. We will never be able to depend on media to be truthful, or unbiased. Listening to narratives from all sides, and understanding how to interpret it all is how we can find the pearls of truth, in this sea of nonsense.

Yea it is sea of nonsense but I think we can still reach the truth by listening both sides as you said and making deduction
