Le séjour alpin se poursuivra avec une étape dynamique qui emmènera les coureurs sur le toit du Tour 2019, au col de l’Iseran (2 770 m) qui sera franchi seulement pour la 8e fois dans l’histoire du Tour et la seconde fois par son versant sud, le plus abrupt. C’est précisément en montant vers le plus haut col routier des Alpes que Louison Bobet avait fait ses adieux au Tour en 1959 mais aussi que Claudio Chiappucci prenait son envol pour aller s’imposer à Sestrières en 1992.
The journey through the Alps continues with a dynamic stage that will take the riders to the summit of the 2019 Tour at the Col de l’Iseran (2 770m) that will only be reached for the eighth time in the history of the Tour and the second time by its south side which is the toughest one. It is precisely when going up towards the highest road pass in Europe that Louison Bobet had bid farewell to the Tour in 1959 but also where Claudio Chiappucci took off before winning in Sestrières in 1992.
SAINT JEAN DE MAURIENNE 
En 2010, la première arrivée du Tour à Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne a été riche en émotions en particulier pour Sandy Casar, membre d’une échappée partie de loin et qui se montrait le plus habile à la manœuvre dans le final. Cinq ans plus tard, Romain Bardet s’était déjà débarrassé de tous ses rivaux en montée avant de remporter sa première étape sur le Tour.
In 2010, the first finish of the Tour in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne was a rather emotional one, especially for Sandy Casar who was part of a breakaway that took off early and proved to be the smartest in the final moments. Five years later, Romain Bardet had already gotten rid of all his rivals on climbs before capturing his first stage on the Tour.
TIGNES 
Avant de devenir une sorte de Mecque du ski et des loisirs d’hiver, Tignes était un petit village de haute montagne, qui fut noyé lors de la construction d’un barrage en 1952. La station a quant à elle été créée en 1956 puis se développa et accueillit les épreuves de ski acrobatique des Jeux Olympiques de 1992. Guerlain Chicherit, multiple champion du monde de ski extrême et pilote de rallye-raid (5e du Dakar en 2010) est l’un des ambassadeurs de Tignes dans la planète sport tout comme l’ancien champion du monde de snowboard Nicolas Huet.
Before becoming a sort of Mecca of skiing and winter leisures, Tignes was a little high mountain village that would be flooded after the construction of a dam in 1952. The resort was therefore created in 1956 and started developing before welcoming the freestyle skiing events of the 1992 Winter Olympic Games. Guerlain Chicherit, a multiple extreme skiing world champion and off road rally driver (5thof the 2010 Dakar Rally) is one of Tignes’ ambassadors in terms of sports, exactly like former snowboard world champion, Nicolas Huet.
