La première des illustrations de mon dernier travail a été dévoilée au public... il est temps de vous en montrer les étapes.

The first of the illustrations of my last work has been revealed to the public... it's time to show you the steps.

Histoire / Story

Ce dessin au stylo et les 5 qui suivront ont été réalisés dans le cadre de l'illustration intérieure du nouveau roman de Nathalie Bagadey, autrice de Fantastique Historique et de Fantasy.
Le projet concerne le tome 2 de sa série CITARA : Virginie dans les Flammes.
Voici donc le dragon Lok, personnage mis à l'honneur à l'intérieur de ces pages (que j'attends avec impatience de lire, car le tome 1 était vraiment prenant).
Viendra peut-être un jour une colorisation de cette illus' (quand j'aurai fini le costume de Peluche et que j'aurai survécu au rush des salons du livre qui reprend dès septembre.

This pen drawing and the following 5 were made as part of the interior illustration of the new novel by [Nathalie Bagadey] (http://nathaliebagadey.fr/), author of Fantastique Historique and Fantasy.
The project concern volume 2 of her serie CITARA : Virginia in the Flames.
So here is the dragon Lok, a character highlighted inside these pages (which I look forward to reading, because Volume 1 was really addictive).
Perhaps one day there will come a colorization of this illustration (when I will have finished the costume of Peluche and that I will have survived the rush of the book fairs which resumes in September.

Step by Step

Recherche / Research

Pour des commandes de cette taille, je réalise en premier lieu une planche de recherches avec plusieurs propositions de composition, de visages et / ou de détails.

For orders of this size, I first make a research plate with several proposals of composition, faces and / or details.

Crayonné / Pencil sketch

Vient ensuite la phase de crayonné. Les détails sont tous dessiné mais peuvent encore être changés. à chacune de ces phase, j'envoie un visuel à ma commanditaire pour qu'elle valide le tracé, ou me fasse part de ses demandes de modification.

Then comes the pencil phase. The details are all drawn but can still be changed. At each of these phases, I send a visual to my sponsor so that she can validate the layout, or inform me of her requests for modification.

Encrage / Inking

Voici la phase presque finale du travail : les tracés définitifs sont réalisés au stylo et à l'encre de Chine.

Here is the almost final phase of the work: the final drawings are made with pen and Indian ink.

Photoshop

Les tous derniers ajustements (contrastes, correction de bavures...) et ultimes modifications (option "avec pupilles" et "sans pupilles...) sont réalisés après le scan, sur Photoshop.

The very last adjustments (contrasts, burr correction...) and final modifications (option "with pupils" and "without pupils...) are made after the scan, on Photoshop.
