October 22, 1895 express "Granville-Paris" was late for the capital of France. To arrive on time, the driver increased the speed of the locomotive, which carried 131 passengers.

When he entered the terminal of Montparnasse, the train raced at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour.

Emergency braking could not be used, because shortly before the accident the driver was instructed not to use Westinghouse's brakes and simply turned them off.

The dispersed train knocked out the track, drove to the platform of the old West Station, drove the entire station, crashed into the facade wall, punched it and collapsed into the street from a height of 10 meters.

Behind the wall stood a newsstand in which a woman was sitting, who was substituting her husband that day. She died as a result of the collapse of the brickwork.

Five people, including two passengers, were injured.

For four days, the train stood untouched behind the wall of the station, attracting crowds of curious townspeople. The driver was fined 50 francs.
