Foxtales contest #10 entry: Watchers

It was the pink one today. Trailing after her like a wisp of candy floss flickering in the wind. So, it's going to be a funeral, she thought. Always the pink one for death. Last time it had been the black one, and that meant cake. Like it or not, however, the pink one meant she'd be getting that phone call again. Informing her someone had died. Never look at them directly, she reminded herself. Yasmin knew, looking at the phantom cats just made it worse. On some strange level, validated their existence. Unless she moved faster it would catch up to her too and she wasn't sure what that might mean, only that it couldn't be good. Run. Heeding the command she began pelting down the slick, cobbled streets attracting curious stares from passer's by. Even running, it kept up. Angling to catch her eye by floating just at the corner of it, a meter up now. Down an alley. Dashing into a doorway. Alright, she thought, I'm home. Rarely did they follow her here. Latch the door. In the dark, her heavy, panting breaths. Nothing awaited her as she finally opened her eyes.Go, her inner voice prompted, go wait by the phone.

For a bit of extra fun, this one contains a hidden message as per the contest challenge. First person to find it gets

1 SBD

Kinda reads like a T. Brooks novel from the Knight Of The Word series. Some would say today his work slightly cheesy fantasy but for what it was in the 80's and 90's it was actually incredibly well written stuff. ....though the television stuff inspired by his work in completely unbearable.Hollywood always destroys great writing. I've yet to encounter a poor post by you as they are all extraordinarily well written, incredibly original, and exceptionally creative. Always makes your blog a pleasure to visit. Keep up the awesome work Holo.

Thanks very much @mudcat36 - it was tricky to write due to the hidden message component :)

You are a clever cookie. If it wasn't a contest entry I'd resteem. Until you hit 50 I will always have a spot on my blog to resteem your work. You create great content. Would it be ok with you if I promoted your "The 90 million year long evolutionary arms race that brought you... Wasabi" post? I feel it deserves to be in the promoted section as it is a perfect example of great content.

Went ahead and promoted it. Though not a great sum it puts your post in the "New" section of the promoted tag, and given the recent shift of SBD I have noticed the promoted category has shifted in cost. Hopefully it helps it to gain the value of votes it deserves. Keep producing awesome stuff.

I'll do my best 😉 Thanks for all the support. Likewise I'll be keeping an eye on your stuff and resteeming things.

I feel the hidden lays in the italics, but I can't quite draw to mind how it fits. I hope someone solves your enigma as presented for the SBD, but alas it's above me.

It's simpler than you think. Don't get distracted by the obvious misdirection 😆
