FOXTALES Submission "Welcome"

"Whattya want from me?!!!" Ace cries up at the tiny square opening in the wall fifteen feet above him, but he knows that it's useless. He steps forward and slams his fist against the wall; also useless but the pain feels good, and then he curses out loud for a minute or so, mostly at himself for getting into this situation. He'd told himself that this would be the last time, just one last score… And the front door had a lock that looked so easy. He remembers stepping forward with his tools and starting to work, and as he'd glanced down he'd noticed just how cheesy the lettering on the Welcome mat happened to be. He'd kind of chuckled about that before getting back to work and then that same doormat had given him a welcome all right… A long painful drop down to this goddamn dungeon. And now he's about to rear back and ask his useless question again when a low whispering voice filled with cold and final rage gives him his answer: "Nothing." The opening shuts with a metallic thud and all Ace can do now is scream and scream again into total darkness.
