Regulation changes in the 2018 formula one season

in #formulaone6 years ago

For the 2018 formula one season there are going to be some important regulation changes.

No more T-wings and shark fins this season:

At the right and the left side is where developments were forbidden, but not the central space in between, which teams had concentrated on, led to some extreme solutions, For example Williams developed a double T-wing. The advantage of an T-wing was to better direct airflow to the rear wing in order to get more downforce.

Cockpit-protection:

The so-called halo will improve the driver´s safety in an accident. The forces which could impact on the halo is tremendously. Therefor the teams had to spent much time on planning and constructing the new system of halo. There will also be a variety of regulation interpretations from the teams. But the teams will have to look after the weight maximum of about 734 kg. So the teams still have to search for some kg to lose in order to gain speed and power for the race.

Future plans:

The FIA is finishing plans for a minimum F1 driver weight in 2019, ensuring heavier drivers are no longer penalised. A minimum of 80kg will be established for the driver and his seat,  including specially marked ballast that will sit under it, while the  overall car/driver weight will rise a further 6kg to 740kg. Thus when considered on its own the car will have to weigh 660kg.
