Williams sign Oliver Rowland
Rowland announced this Friday on twitter that he will be joining WilliamsRacing as there official young driver. This is his opportunity to get into F1 and possibly become the teammate of Lance Stroll. Currently, Williams has Stroll and Sirotkin as there drivers for 2018. Their test driver is Kubica but because of his arm, I don't see a big chance he will ever finish a formule1 race again.
Williams is hoping to finish at the top of the midfield at the end of this season with their new chassis called the FW41 which is looking really promising. It also looks very exciting on the downforce level, this is where Williams has been struggling the past seasons but they may have nailed it this season. With a good power source and promising developments in downforce. They may have some gold on their hands.
Back to Rowland, he started his career at carting when he was seventeen years old. In 2007 he won the Super 1 JICA and became third in the British Open Championship. When he ended karting in 2010. He joined the Formula Renault UK Winter Series and drove for CRS Racing. The next season he raced for Fortec Motorsport in this season he won four races in the last six races. He also won the chance to test in a McLaren f1 car THat didn't work out.
Then he went to the Eurocup and became second in the 2013 season. In 2016 he finally went to the GP-2 (now called F2). He drove for MP Motorsport and also drove in the Formula E he didn't drove many kilometers because he was just subbing in some races. In his last season in the F2, he raced every race and drove for DAMS. He finished third that season just behind Leclerc and Markelov.
Williams is the ideal team for Rowland because they got an unproven rookie in the F1 in the form of Surikov who has never raced in F1 and a Testdriver who possibly can't ride an F1 car because of the FIA who won't let him because of his arm. It is also a team with the possibility of money because the Stroll family may want to buy the team and their net worth is estimated around 2.4 billion dollars. So it is overall a good chance for Rowland to show his talent and possibly become an F1 driver and maybe a champion.
