Battleworn!
Battleworn metal has a charm of its own. It isnt pretty or nice to touch. it is actually quite ugly, but ugly in a utilitarian way.
My fencing club has just bought new nylon training swords and so it is time for my swords and gear to return home to me again
I have borrowed them out so that the memberrs of my club could use them during training, that way the problem with too feww swords was alleviated while I got a chance to test my swords and get some feedback.
I have also made a buckler that the club got to borrow, for the same reason. For testing and to alleviate the lack of bucklers in the club. This one has been down there for more than a year now and it has obviously seen some real action.
Maybe it is time for it to come home for some repairs and tightening of the rivets as well? what do you think?

It looks quite nice, why not leave it as it is? Maybe not usable in this state, but very decorative.
yes i should probably at least leave the rough surfaces as they are, but the craftsman in me screams that I have to tighten the rivets.
Resist!
I have always wanted to try fencing. Is is hard to begin?
well i suppose that depends on alot of things. The type of fencing I do is historical fencing, as opposed to olympic fencing. the weapons are heavier so the risk of getting bruises is bigger. But you dont need to be a fitness freak to start. alot of it is about timing and technique. that said it does get the pulse up, when someone tries to bash you over the head with a steel stick :-)
I would recommend getting in contact with whatever clubs are in your area (HEMA or olympic fencing) and ask them if it would be ok to drop by and participate in a training session to check it out. At least the clubs i know of in Denmark and Sweden are usually really nice and let you try for free a few times before you commit to a membership
no, if the shield is rigid. They are signs of battle!
a greeting, nicola
its not entirely rigid since the rivets have loosened a bit, but i could just tigthen those and leave the rest as it is
