Swamp Forest Ratargul, Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s only recognized Swamp Forest "Rataragul" is located in Sylhet. What is Swamp Forest? If water tolerant big tree take the form of a forest then it called Swamp Forest. Swamp forests are not flooded in other places outside the coastal areas. Only in Rainy Season, trees of these forests are partially submerged in water.
Gowain river on the north, huge haor in the south and the forest is in the middle. The location of the forest of Fatehpur union of Gowain ghat upazila border of Sylhet district. The distance of the only recognized Swamp forest from the city of Sylhet is about 26 kilometres. Incomparable beautiful giant forest’s most of the trees are in the under water seven months of the year.
At the beginning of the winter, there comes many guest bird. The birds play submerged game in the lake that runs through the forest. Various species of wild animals roam around the forest, and on the south side is surrounded by a beautiful forest.
The area of the entire forest is 3,325.61 acres. Of these 504 acres of forest was declared in 1973 by the Wildlife Sanctuary. Though the natural forest is rich, forests, kadam, hijal, murtas and other varieties of water tolerant trees have been planted. The vast forest is water-soluble almost 25 species of plants. The birds have white Egret, blind Egret, kingfisher, parrot, bulbul, gourds, dhupi, doves, kite and hawk. In the winter, there come huge kind of vultures. And along the long path, all the species of birds take the base with teal. In dry season if you want to go inside with small boats then a flocks of bird fly there and make way for you.This scene is really rare!
