Reaction Shot of my Feet During the 8-21-2017 Total Eclipse - Reedracer

Hurray! We live within the path of the total eclipse! So we make plans to go to a local park right behind our house with our grandson for the big day.

On August 21, 2017, here in Blue Springs, MO the day started a bit wet and very overcast! Our intelligence from the local weather was that the best chance of clear skies lay to the west and a bit north. We gathered up our eclipse hunting supplies: Cameras, folding chairs, water, phones and snacks. Jumped in the car and headed west!

There were lots of cars out and about, so while we were searching for nothing but blues skies we played a game to list all the states cars were from. I believe we saw 10 different states on that short trip.

Skies broke through just west of Warrensburg, MO about 50 miles from home. Having lived in the area, we decided to go to Knob Noster State Park next to Whiteman AFB. The park had signs out pointing to the ideal place with a nice southern exposure. We parked and hiked the 1/4 mile down to the valley.

Missouri in August is just plain hoot and this day was no exception. Luckily we brought water and hats and some sunscreen as well. We got to a nice spot, set up our chairs and waited. There were maybe 100 other hearty adventurers waiting with us.

We chatted with some folks, got a special commemorative sticker from the Park Ranger, and were even given some of the special glasses you needed if you wanted to stare at the sun from the family next to us.

When the eclipse started to happen, somehow my feet decided to get their picture taken! That's them above taken with my Galaxy S7 phone. As you can see, they were thrilled to be in the shadow of one such as myself to witness the totality of the Moon blocking the Sun. Also notice the complete lack of safety glasses, so my feet were not allowed to stare at the sun :(.
