Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp praised Egyptian player Mohamed Salah, who was recently transferred to the Reds team, noting that he had tried to sign a contract four seasons ago when he was coach of Borussia Dortmund.

Salah, the 25-year-old, moved to Liverpool from Rome for 42 million euros and 8 million in the most expensive deal on both sides' history.

"Liverpool have ignored Salah's experience with Chelsea, which has not been successful," klopp said of Salah in comments published on the Liverpool Echo website, noting that it was an early step.

Salah played under Chelsea's Blues in 19 matches during the 2015 season, before moving to Fiorentina on loan and from there to Rome.

Salah scored 19 goals with Roma last season.

"He has a very good left foot and the English team does not have a lot of left-footers," he added.

The 25-year-old played his first game of the Liverpool Cup against Wigan Athletic on Friday and scored his only goal in the 1-1 draw.
