Real Madrid blitzed Sevilla away scoring five goals in the first half at the Bernabeau yesterday, as they warmed up for the Club World Cup in perfect fashion.

Ballon d'Or winner Christian Ronaldo capped his fine week with a quick-fire double and a man of the match performance after Nacho had opened the scoring after just three minutes.Toni Kroos then finished off a superb breakaway goal before 19-year-old Achraf Hakimi coolly scored his first goal for the club to put Real 5-0 up in the first half.

Real took their foot off the gas in the second half, and even though Sevilla tried to salvage some pride, it was Madrid who came closest to scoring again.

Real had gone into the game without the suspended Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal and Casemiro, while Raphael Varane was out injured, and they knew defeat to fifth-placed Sevilla could have left them 11 points behind Barcelona ahead of the upcoming El Classico.

Real were rampant from the off, and never looked like not winning comfortably. With just 3 minutes on the clock, a defensive mix-up between Simon Kjaer and Luis Muriel from corner allowed Nacho to tuck in from close range.

It was then 2-0 on 23 minutes when Ronaldo finished neatly from Marco Asensio's through ball. Ronaldo then thought he should have had a penalty, but the referee rightly denied him, before being awarded one moments later when Jesus Navas handled the ball.

The Portuguese superstar duly stepped up to the spot to double his tally and make it 3-0 on 31 minutes. He then started the move for Real's fourth. A rapid breakaway by Ronaldo saw him pass to Kroos who exchanged passes with Lucas Vazquez before sliding the ball home. And it was five when teenager Achraf finished off another move orchestrated by Ronaldo.

With the game won, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane seized the opportunity to rest Kroos, Luka Modric and Ronaldo in the second half as his team took their foot off the gas.

Real Madrid's thoughts now turn to the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia, where they will play UAE’s Al Jazira in the semi final and probably a final. They then return to more important matters as the La Liga action for the El Classico with Barcelona on December 23.
