Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger states that Jack Wilshere’s fate will be down only to the player himself.

The English midfielder has worked his way back to prominence at the Emirates, having looked on his way out for much of the last year.

After spending last season on loan at Bournemouth, Wilshere didn’t couldn't manage to start a single league game this campaign until December 13 - but has started nine out of 11 Premier League games ever since.

In all he has made 27 first-team displays this season.

His current contract terminates at the end of the current season, but Wilshere has been proposed £90,000-a-week contract which is a pay-cut - but includes significant considerations linked to appearances and general success.

Wenger revealed that he was confident a deal could be completed earlier this month but also told that there were time limitations and getting a deal done as soon as possible was essential.

But three weeks later and a deal still hasn't been made, and Wilshere is yet to commit.

Asked about the circumstances on Wednesday, Wenger explained: "It is progressing. The decision belongs to him, and at the end of the day, you have to respect the conclusion of the player".
