Tick Tock Daniel

If it isn't the cannibals that get you then it is most definitely the hope. Hope that this year would be different from last year or any year that Levy and ENIC have been in charge of Tottenham Hotspur Football.

With just over a week to go until the transfer window shuts and no new signings since the arrival of Ndombele it looks likely to be another frustrating season for Spurs fans and by all accounts our manager too. Poch has been increasingly cranky in his last couple of post-match interviews hinting that he too is becoming increasingly pissed off by Levy's approach to (not)signing players.

Earlier in the summer, I wrote a piece suggesting that Levy was beginning to feel the pressure from the comments that Poch has been making pretty much all year in regards being under-resourced and unappreciated. When I shared this article on a couple of fan forums and reddit, I was rounded on by some supporters for being a negative nelly - I've chosen not to include some of the more sweary comments from other forums for the sake of the more delicate flowers amongst you who might be offended by such terminology.

You know what I'm getting sick off? Making the same mistakes every single year and expecting a different result! That my friends is the path to insanity........

Levy isn't an idiot only in the same sense that a tapeworm that sits in your gut stealing sustenance from your body isn't an idiot - it's a highly evolved parasite that will continue to do so until you clear it out. The idiots are the fans and the manager who put up with this annual routine or worse yet defend it! Poch seems to have woken up to the fact that whatever Levy promised him at the start of the summer is worth less than a guarantee from Boris Johnson to his partner that he'll be home before 10 tonight not stinking of cheap perfume.

All hell is certainly going to break loose when the manager packs his bags to join a club that actually has some ambition to win trophies! If you believe that Spurs don't have any money then you're a mug - next to nothing as a net spend in transfers, increased revenue from TV deals and sponsorship, a wage structure that ensures our best players are paid significantly less than they'd get elsewhere, continued qualification for the Champions League, etc. etc. The problem is the money that Spurs have is only going in one direction and that is into Joe Lewis' offshore account in the Bahamas!

Joe Lewis's $250million yacht - imagine what Spurs could achieve with a similar investment,,,,,,,

Levy certainly loves a bargain but the problem is that there aren't many if any bargains in football these days especially when dealing with other English clubs. For example, I can only assume that Levy still seems to be hanging onto the idea that Fulham are about to "do a Leeds" and go into financial meltdown following their relegation from the Premier League. Parachute payments are now designed to stop that very thing from happening and allow Fulham to hold onto their prized assets such as Ryan Sessegnon or at the very least sell them for a fair price. We've been "negotiating" with Fulham for the best part of 2 years and yet it still hasn't dawned on Levy that this isn't going to be like when he bought Aaron Lennon and Danny Rose in exchange for some canned goods and the loose change in his pockets.

We are now entering the fabled "Levy Time" when our master negotiator supposedly does his best work. The problem, of course, is that all this fart-arsing about and not signing players in good time doesn't ultimately save the club money. None of the players we are interested in are suddenly going to become cheaper as the window gets closer to closing and we get more desperate to sign someone, anyone!

At this point in time, the only thing that would bring me satisfaction beyond Spurs signing a high-quality player would be to eat Mr. Levy's liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti

Sort:

Just interchange Levy with Woodward and this post still makes sense. The people for the most are not the fans but the players. Imagine only having less than 15 years of high level football and having to play alongside trash teammates and your fate being controlled by forces beyond your own.

No wonder Eriksen can't wait to escape the club or Pogba as well.

No it wouldnt. Levy wouldnt go off and buy and overrated player like Pogba for 120 million for a vanity project and then sack the manager because Pogba is not performing . Levy is streets ahead of Woodward in every sense of the word.

Wasn't Poch about to quit after he won the Champions League... It seems your manager will be gone sooner than you think.

PS: Here is the 'overrated Pogba

Dont need to look at videos of Pogba doing a flick or scoring a goal. Watch him play last year for United and you begin to realise just how overrated he is. I wonder is the utd vs Everton match on youtube also?? Worst player on the pitch by a mile and you can add 28 more games to that. He had a good first half versus Man City. That was it. Contrary to popular belief he had a bad world cup also . Played well in the final but was going to be dropped in the group stages.

What is your beef with PP anyway? He plays in a team of 5/10 and is the only worldclass player in that compared to Tottenham who are just all 6's and 7's with no star dust to speak off. Hence why the team is just consistent and stuck in the same spot.

If we get Maguire, Bruno and Dybala I can guarantee we are tipping over Tottenham for third. Be sure of it.

Just dont like pre madonnas downing tools so managers lose their jobs. I actually cant believe a Utd supporter is sticking up for the guy given his performance over the last two seasons. All the utd supporters in Manchester want him out the door. I'd rather a team with 6s and 7s than star dust who is more interested in his Instagram than he is about football.

6th eh!!! . Very consistent there with yhe star dust 😂😂😂😂

I told yah! We only have a lick of star dust which is diluted under the shit pike in our squad. Think about it. Ashley young, jones, smalling and rojo in defence. Midfield, matic, fred, mctominay, mata. In the forward line we have a trampoline.

One simple question, out of our entire squad minus De Gea, because it is obvious, and our new signings, name two players that would improve your squad.

Pogba is the vanity signing to end all vanity signings. In the right team he would be a decent player but he was signed purely to demonstrate that United still had the financial clout to make such signings. When you put a guy with a marketing background in charge of a football club it shouldn't come as a surprise that he makes signings that from a PR point of view initially look fantastic but from a results on the pitch point of view ultimately disappoint. Let the football people make the football decisions - that is the simple formula that will deliver success every single time!

I know its frustrating but he is in Portugal at the minute trying to sign a 2 players .The stadium cost close to a billion quid. He is being prudent with finances. Something has to give if you now have a 1 billion quid outlay. Reading the clubs balance sheets Joe didnt receive anything whatsoever but on the contrary has invested substantially. This guy was born over a pub in the East End of London. He is a Londoner through and through and he supported Spurs as a kid. He is not a fly by night investor. But at the end if the day he needed to get the stadium over the line and keep things tight while we do it. It will be interesting to see by next week what our total spend will be. Im quietly confident.

I sincerely hope you're right and we do make a couple of signings but I get the feeling that these talks will end in much the same way that the others have ended with Levy unwilling to pay the going rate for top-quality footballers. It's a seller's market, plain and simple so there is no point nickel and diming over these deals, either pay the fee or don't bother showing an "interest" in the first place.

Yes, the stadium was expensive because Levy couldn't deliver it on time or to budget! It baffles me how he still has a job given that he can't deliver success on the pitch (which presumably is the standard by which any chairman should be judged) and he can't get the finances right! I wish I could be that crap at my job and take home what he does.

Im sorry I have to disagree with you there mate. i think he is doing a great job financially for the club. The club is run better than any club in Europe. Hes after making Enfield the best training facility in the world and now we have a stadium to top it all off. The club made the most profit for any club in the world last year. If he just didnt fight for every penny which i believe he will do once the snag list costs settle down with the stadium. Lewis wouldnt sack him as its not so much a business relationship. He's like a second son. As chairmen go hes one of the best. Sure weren't we shouting his name after winning the semi final of the champions league not so long ago? We havr to look at outside forces with why Levy is holding off also. Hes waitung for the British Pound to bounce so he can buy more for less. Pesky Brexit

The bottom line for fans should not be the bottom line. Success at a football club should be measured by counting trophies not by counting pennies. How many trophies has Levy delivered?

Well he was 90 minutes away from delivering the champions league in which we were the better team. The foundations are now solid and he made them that way. Over the next five years now we will have the revenue to match the big boys and we can push on and win things.

it's hard to ask for big investments, today you have one of the most beautiful stadiums in the world, in the last few years you have achieved excellent results, I really hope this can be the year of the spurs!

Multi-billion pound businesses shouldn't be left hoping

It's all about finding the balance between signing players to improve you and not doing a Manchester United and throwing cash at everyone and anyone.

That being said, if the thing about Poch not having control of transfers is true then you really need to scrap your current setup. We had that issue when Brendan was in charge and we ended up getting a load of crap players he didn't really know what to do with.

I'd say there 3 ways of doing it

The City & Liverpool way - The manager identifies the players he needs and the board goes out and signs them

The United way - The CEO with no footballing knowledge or business acumen identifies the players, pays over the odds and then expects his managers to get results

The Spurs way - The CEO does very little and expects the "head coach" to continue to deliver results on the pitch

Even if you take City out of the equation because they are clearly on a different level to everyone else financially, it shouldn't come as a major surprise to see which method leads to trophies and which ones don't
