Football is the most played and most watched sport on earth with an estimated 1 billion viewers spread across the globe. I love football; I am a die-hard fan of the round leather game. In fact, hardly would a week pass without me appearing at the viewing arena and often sacrifice food and money for the sport. Yea, we were that close and inseparable- this isn’t about our love anyways, it is about a growing menace that’s hell bent on spoiling the competitiveness of football.

This menace cut across all leagues and has become the habit of elites club in football, with culprits being Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and other elite’ teams across Europe. I won’t leave you with too much suspense. The big question is THE FOOTBALL TRANSFER MARKET- IS IT FAIR OR UNFAIR?
Football exemplifies a lot of things; teamwork, leadership, passion, loyalty, dedication, FAIR-PLAY OR FAIRNESS and other virtues. These virtues flow endlessly during different football competition and are the true reflection of passion, love and dedication of assorted stakeholders of the sport.

UNFAIRNESS IN WHERE IT MATTER MOST
Sadly the football transfer market reeks of unfairness to smaller clubs and annoyingly recently poaching of rivals best players. In the premier league, several cases come to mind. Sol Campbell after going through the youth rank at Tottenham and becoming their best player left to join their biggest rival Arsenal. I can bet that many would never imagine that Ashley Cole would dump Arsenal to join a major rival but it happened and in the last transfer window, we have Alexis Sanchez moving from Arsenal to Manchester United.

In Spanish, while the classico duo- Real Madrid and Barcelona hasn’t signed any players across the team. A little journey to the last decade saw a certain Luis Figo leaving Camp Nou for Santiago Bernabeu in the most controversial manner.
Perhaps the worst case is that of Budesliga where Bayern Munich has been successful in making the league a one club affair after several signings from their closest rival in recent times. No fewer than 5 stars players have been tempted with juicy package to the Alianz Arena. Notable names include Mario Gotze, Mats Hummels, Robert Lewandowski. By signing Dortmund best players, Bayern Munich successfully destroyed the re-emergence of Dortmund team.

Across the leagues, we have Cristiano Ronaldo move to Real Madrid in 2009 just a year after winning Ballon D’or, Neymar Dos Santos controversial move from Barcelona to PSG amongst others.
While the football market is set up to allow teams strengthen their weak areas, teams with financial muscle has abuse the market to weaken their closest rival instead.
