The former Arsenal and Barcelona striker takes over from Leonardo Jardim who was sacked following a run of poor performances which has seen Monaco pick up just 6 points from a possible 27 and currently lie in 18th.

The job is Henry's first full time appointment as coach and it must be memorable for the French man who started his professional football with Monaco and won the League with them in 1997.

Henry was Assistant to former Everton and Wigan Athletic manager, Roberto Martinez as the two steered Belgium to a third place finish at the World Cup in Russia during the summer.

The aftermath of the mundial saw the former French striker quit his post a football pundit with Sky Sports to focus fully on his coaching career.

Henry was previously touted to take over the vacant position at Aston Villa with John Terry his assistant but the Villa hierarchy opted for lifelong supporter, Dean Smith.

The Arsenal legend joins a host of ex-footballers of his era who have plunged into coaching after their playing career.

John Terry was a few days ago announced as the Assistant manager to Dean Smith at Aston villa.

Steven Gerrard is currently in charge at Scottish side, Rangers while Frank Lampard took over the job at Derby County.
