Scholes returns to his boyhood club on an 18-month contract having focused more on punditry work since after his retirement from football.

This is his first full step towards coaching as his only other experience in the dugout was with Ryan Giggs in 2014 when the Welshman was caretaker manager at United.

The 44-year old who was always an open critic of former Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho is aware and ready for criticisms that would also come his way.

Jose Mourinho once took a swipe at Scholes while being his critic that "if Scholes were to become a manager and be at least 25% as successful as he is, that the former England international would be quite happy".

Scholes would take charge of his first game against Yeovil Town as his team look to close the 9-point gap with teams in the playoff zone.
