From Camp Nou to Anfield

in #football6 years ago

It's day two of the Champions League Quarter finals and with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, going away from home to take the advantage going into the second leg, it's left to be seen if today's away teams can replicate that feat.

Barcelona vs Roma

Barcelona would be welcoming Roma to the Camp Nou tonight, for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash.

This would be the fifth meeting between the two and its a balanced record, with both teams winning one apiece and two draws.

The last encounter between these two at the same ground, ended in a 6-1 thumping of the Italians. Roma's coach, Vincenzo Montella would definitely not be relishing such nightmare again.

Barcelona have score 77 goals and conceded just 12 in their last 23 home games in the Champions League. Roma themselves have won 7 of their last 10 games.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquet should be in contention after both returned to first team training, with the latter getting action time against Sevilla over the weekend. Cengiz Under would not be available for Roma, after picking up an injury on international duty with Turkey. Radja Nainggolan however should be fit to play, despite lining off in the 1-1 draw at Bologna on Saturday.

MY PREDICTION

With Barcelona looking to reach the semifinals for the first time in three years and the team nursing the idea of a treble this season, they would want to leave no stone unturned. Roma however know the would have chances just like Sevilla had over the weekend. The difference would then be if they're able to take it.
A Barcelona win, maybe not by a great margin. Not ruling out a Roma stunner.

Liverpool vs Manchester City

Manchester City would be travelling to Merseyside, in an all-English quarter final tie, when they take on Liverpool in the third meeting between the teams this season.

images (33).jpeg

The last meeting on this ground was in the Premier League and Liverpool escaped with a 4-3 victory having lost the reverse fixture in the league, earlier in the season by 5 goals to nil.

Both teams have good knowledge of each other and it waits to be seen, how the superiority battle between Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola continues.

Jurgen Klopp is the only manager to have defeated Pep Guardiola more in all competitions, (five times).

Liverpool are the highest scoring side in this season's Champions League with 28 goals yet and would be looking to progress from this disheartening for the first time since 2008. Manchester City are also appearing in the quarter-final of this competition for just the second time after the 2015/2016 season.

While Liverpool would be missing Joel Matip (Injured and out of season), Ragnar Klavan, Adam Lallana and Emre Can, City would be without Kún Aguero who is injured but Fabian Delph should be in contention.

My PREDICTION

With the two teams aware of each other's frailty at the back, both would be looking to capitalise on this and the best team to take chances might win the day. Maybe a Liverpool win or a draw.

Sort:

Can't wait, crossing my fingers for my beloved Liverpool!

Great predictions. Liverpool really had to shock man city with a 3-0 win. Great win for barcelona and Liverpool
