Barcelona Do The Double As Deportivo Relegate

Lionel Messi once again inspired Barcelona to a League title with a hatrick against Deportivo to make it two titles in less than ten days after routing Sevilla 5-0 last weekend in the Copa Del Rey final. This makes the Catalunya club the fourth team to be crowned League Champions this season in the top five tier of European football before the final games after Bayern Munich (Germany), Paris Saint German (France), and Manchester City (England), with only Juventus (Italy) yet to confirm their status.

The Clarence Seedorf led side gave a guard of honour to the Catalonians as a mark of respect following their Copa del Rey triumph.

Barcelona needed just one point to claim the title while Deportivo needed three to keep their hopes of survival alive. The hosts gave a good show of themselves but Messi again was the difference.

The Visitors were up in the 6th minute with a well placed shot by Philipe Coutinho who latched onto a Ousmane Dembele pass from the edge of the 18-yard before Messi doubled the lead in the 37th minute.

Lucas Perez pulled one back for Seedorf's men just two minutes after and Çolak completed the comeback in the 63rd minute of play.

Deportivo were denied an opportunity to go ahead by Andre Ter Stergen who was excellent on the night to keep the hosts at bay. And with about 10 minutes of the match left, Messi rose up to the occasion and netted a brace in three minutes to confirm Barcelona's triumph and condemn Deportivo La Coruna to relegation with 28 points and 2 matches left to play.
