Champions League Recap - Manchester United vs Basel

Hello, football fanatics.

I am starting a new series on Champions League which will include weekly recaps of every game involving the major teams. Do follow me to stay up to date with all the European action this season.

Group A
Result: Manchester United 3-0 FC Basel
Venue: Old Trafford, Manchester

Manchester United started off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a bang as they beat their group opponents, FC Basel by 3 goals to nil. The Red Devils were not at their best on the night but did manage to get the result that they wanted. With this victory, United currently sit at the top of their group with three points.

Manchester United gaffer, Jose Mourinho had to change his centre back pairing from the last weekend with Eric Bailly and Phil Jones suspended form European action. As a result, Chris Smalling and the summer acquisition, Victor Lindelof stepped in and did their job very well.

The Red Devils did win the match 3-0 but fans are disappointed with the injury to Paul POgba which he sustained int he 19th minute of the game. The Frenchman hobbled off due to a hamstring injury and is facing six weeks on the sidelines. But with the likes of Marouane Fellaini stepping in and making a mark, Jose would not be too bothered.

The Manchester side found their first goal scorer in Fellaini as the Belgian replaced Pogba early on. The midfielder headed an Ashley Young cross into the net to give United the advantage in the 35ht minute. Shortly after the half time break, Romelu Luakaku scored his first ever Champions League goal for the new team in the 53rd minute.

The win was secured in the 84th minute when teeange sesnation, Marcus Rashford slotted the ball home in the 84th minute. Even though the English giants look a little brittle on the wings while defending, Jose's ability to marshal his troops to grind out the results and find the goal somehow has the been the highlight of the season so far.
