Massive Upset
Wow! I said it yesterday that football is full of surprises. What a massive upset from Juventus vs Ajax match. Wow. Impressive young players dealt with Juventus' experienced players. No one could have written this script. Nah! No one at all.
Juventus thought they had the advantage with the away goal and they consolidated that when they scored early on through their talisman; Cristiano Ronaldo with his trademark bullet header.
It was going good for them until Ajax equalized. Ajax took it a step further by adding gloss to the scoreline from the corner kick. Ajax stayed up by 2-1.
They scored a brilliant third goal but it was counted for as offside while Juventus had a shout for a penalty but after consulting with the VAR, there was nothing there. This was a brilliant performance from Ajax and who would have thought they would be in this position at the start of the season? Impressive stuff.
This is the first time since 1999 that Ajax would be reaching the semi-final.
On the other hand, Manchester United crashed out in grand style when they were humbled by rejuvenated Barcelona that played a better game than they did in the first leg. Barcelona won 3-0 on the night and Messi scored a brace while Philip Coutinho added the third.
Messi broke his 12 consecutive quarter-final goal drought in a classy fashion by scoring 2 goals. Those two goals were his 109th and 110th Champions' League goals in 133 appearances.
What a night of football it was, with a moment of brilliance and of course a surprise.
Let's see what Manchester City v Tottenham with Liverpool v Porto offers us tonight. I await another surprise and moments of brilliance.
