Chiang Mai FC vs Lampang FC: The Local Derby In Northern Thailand

OK, quick run down: Chiang Mai (The geezers in red) are flying at the moment and are in 4th position in the Thai equivalent of The Championship. However there are no playoffs (don't quote me on that as things change on a yearly basis in Thailand) so only the top 3 go up.

Lampang (The geezers in white) are sitting pretty in mid table. Quite frankly; Chiang Mai needed a win to put some pressure on the team in 3rd place: Trat. You read that wrong...

The first half was lively and fluent. Chiang Mai were pulling off some slick passing moves and were all over them. Sadly they couldn't convert their chances and totally against the run of play Lampang popped in a goal from the left corner of the box after 13 minutes. Chiang Mai were unfazed though and banged in an equalizer almost immediately with a cracking volley from some random who apparently plays for the Thailand Under 23 team. Let's just called him Siobhan...

Then at 30 minutes one of the floodlights stopped working. It made no difference at all on the lighting but the game was stopped for ten minutes regardless. I snuck out and got some food because that's what heroes do...

Weird sideways picture because I don't know how to turn the picture around. Let's just all pretend that this is brilliant...

.

The game restarted at 30 minutes, but sadly that's pretty much all I could say about it. The rest of the game was shocking in terms of any form of standard, and we all couldn't wait to leave once the final whistle was blown. Its a shame because the game started off so well, but just fizzled out after the floodlights died and came back to life.

FINAL SCORE: CHIANG MAI 1 LAMPANG 1

Oh, and both sides got a red card for the same challenge. Three players involved, all three got injured momentarily and to be honest I didn't even realise two of them had been sent off until someone said to me, "I didn't even see the sendings off!" At the end of the game.

By the way, it wasn't dead. This was when it started raining and everyone strategically went for toilet breaks and/or to go and get food under some shelter

So not the best ever game I've seen at Chiang Mai, but they are still in the hunt for 3rd place and a lucrative (I don't know if it's lucrative or not. I'm making it up. But it sounds much better that way doesn't it?) position in the Thai Premier League. I'll let you know when the next game is. Probably, I'm not on here much...

Well. It looks very interesting...
