Life lessons from yesterday's football match between Nigeria and Iceland!

in #football6 years ago (edited)

Most of us know that the FIFA world cup is currently ongoing in Russia. Yesterday Nigeria played against Iceland and scored 2 goals while Iceland scored 0. Throw back to last week, Nigeria played their first match against Croatia and Scored 0, while Croatia Scored 2.

What am I driving at?

Last week Saturday when my dear country Nigeria lost it's first match, Super eagles(Nigerian football team) was called all sort of names and criticized in everyway possible just because they lost the match. The social media was bubbling, Nigerians said a lot of mean things,some said they went for fashion parade and not for a football match because their jersey was too fine,some said they were not prepared and they don't even act like people that want to win the world cup,some said they are not proud of a Nigeria and want to change their Nationality, to say the least.

Fast forward to Yesterday when Nigeria won it's second match against Iceland. The social media has been bubbling too. Same people that disowned Nigeria are now saying they are proud of Nigeria, they love Nigeria, super eagles has made them proud. "Musa",the team player for super eagle that scored the 2 goals has been all over the social media with some ladies prophesying their love for him and how they want him to come and marry them and some guys claiming that "Musa" is related to them.

What am I saying?

In this life,just like the in case of Nigeria's first match when we lost,if you are down or struggling people will criticize you, call you names, abandon you. And just like in the case of Nigeria's second match where we won,if you are up there and excelling, everyone will want to associate with you or start claiming to be your friend.

Lesson 1: Don't be in haste to write someone or something off just like most Nigerians wrote off the super eagles team,as soon as they started the match yesterday,some said they won't even score one goal. But the truth is,People learn, people grow and people change. Try to give people a second chance to prove their worth!

lesson 2: If you listen to people and their bad mouth, you will not make progress or better still you will be discouraged. In this life, especially when you fail on your journey to success,people will say mean things to you just like they did to super eagles, don't listen to them, keep doing your thing and keep getting better, keep striving, let their criticism be your motivation,when value finds you,people will look for you starting with those people that criticized you. Never ever give up!

Lesson 3: "If someone is down already, lift them up and not send them down completely to the point where they cannot rise again". If someone is down, encourage them by saying words that could lift them up. Be part of the solution and not the problem. This was what I expected us as Nigerians to do when our footballers lost the first match, but we failed. Well this is Nigeria, where anything is possible and people will always talk whether good or bad. My point is, we should learn to be part of the solution and not the problem. Words are powerful and they can either make or break. Use them wisely!

Do have a great weekend steem Fam;

Thanks for the life lessons @kweenbrand, I love how you compare it with the current sport spirit, so that we can relate!

You are welcome ma'am. Am glad you liked it.

People are like that often. When you are winning everybody likes, when you are loosing, everybody hates you. Those kinds of people have small minds and even smaller hearts. I hope the rest of the world will soon stop giving them the attention they live off of. Your lessons sound lovely 💚

I hope so too. Am glad you like the lessons. Thanks for stopping by!

Definitely great lesson. Purple too easily want to be seen with the winners and not the losers. However true loyalty and pride is only apparent when times are difficult.

Yes. Loyality to something or a person is proven in times of difficult. Beautiful comment! Thanks for stopping by!
