XFL returning in 2020, no gimmicks this time?
I was super excited to see that the XFL was returning. The first go around failed but I thought it really had potential and it was give people a chance to enjoy football during the off season.
Originally XFL came out in 2001 and aired on NBC. They had a $100 million deal with at the time the WWF, which is now, WWE. They only got back 30% of their investment and cancelled the second season. The WWE attempted to put it on another network but it's attempts failed in the long run. It did get on TV Guides list of "Worst Shows of All Time" which I guess is something?
This time around Vince McMahon is funding it himself because that's how much he believes in this project. It's supposed to begin in January of 2020 and have a 10 week season. Games should be about 2 hours long as well. He's also trying to get past controversy and not allow players to show any kind of political affiliation while out on the field. The whole sitting/standing during the anthem is causing too much drama in the NFL and is hurting their ratings. But ratings ratings won't effect how the XFL succeeds this time around since it's self funded by McMahon.
No criminals, even as much as a DUI, will be allowed to participate in playing in the XFL. Also this isn't a development league for the NFL. The XFL is going to stand on it's own two feet. Also don't expect to see any WWE talent to cross over so Stone Cold won't be tackling any former NFL players.
Ben Boulware would be the very first person I went after! It would be nice to have some competition for the NFL.
I'd love to see Ben out there. He's a good dude.
