Video Assistant Referee Method (VAR) is a new method in the 2018 World Cup . Here's how to use VAR at the World Cup.

The Indonesian referee licensed by FIFA Thoriq Munir Alkatiri revealed the use of Video Assisten Referee (VAR) which is currently one of the most advanced technologies used in the 2018 World Cup Russia.

Thoriq explained before the 2018 World Cup begins, referees have received special training, including the VAR which is operated by elite referees of the world devoted to working behind the scenes. VAR will be involved in major decisions such as penalties, red cards and goals.

However, Thoriq continued, not all violations require VAR assistance. If the referee feels the violation has been considered clear and confident with the decision he took, VAR is not needed anymore.

"But if there is any discrepancy in the decision-making process, the referee feels this is wrong, he can communicate through the check system to the VAR and then rerun VAR replay, not the player's or team's request, but the referee's decision," Thoriq said over the phone to "If the referee is in the middle of being mismanaged, his name is human. If the VAR should not be wrong, the decision must be final and the decision is 100 percent absolutely no mistakes anymore, so people behind the scenes should be people who understand regulations," he said. Sunday (17/6).

The referee Purwakarta it was reasonable if there is a mistake in decision-making by the referee who was in the middle of the field. But if you have asked for VAR, the decision should be multilingual.

Thoriq added, there is no limit to a referee asking for help VAR when making decisions in a match. "Perhaps a one-time VAR decision takes at least 30 seconds, no time limit, if for example it is very clear, 20 seconds can be, but if you need analysis, at least 30 seconds, so there is no effect to the time of the match, added in injury time," he said.

"It could be a lot of using VAR, it could not be taken at all," said Thoriq.

The amount of VAR demanded in the game will certainly not affect the game time. The referee can add the wasted game time due to VAR in extra time at the end of the game.

In the 2018 World Cup, the inaugural VAR usage has been used in the match between France and Australia in the Group C qualifying round held at Kazan Arena Stadium on Saturday (16/6). At that time Andres Cunha who served as the referee had not considered Joshua Risdon offense against Griezmann in the penalty box in the 54th minute.

After getting a protest from the player, Cunha asked VAR help to see the reruns of the incident. The result, Cunha change his decision and make France get a penalty through Antoine Griezmann.

"The referee feels there is something odd, whether the offense inside or outside the penalty box, whether it should be a red card or not. Finally the referee asks the VAR, because if the sliding tackle for example did not lead to the seizure of the ball it can be a red card. VAR became clear the player wanted to grab the ball but got the foot, so the yellow card and the offense inside, so it can be a penalty," he explained.

The second VAR at the 2018 World Cup was also used in Peru vs Denmark matches in Group C at the Mordovia, Arena, Saranks, on Saturday (16/6).

Referee Bakary Papa Gassama awarded a penalty to Peru after seeing back impressions through VAR after a Danish player's offense. Unfortunately, Christian Cueva who was appointed to take the execution of a penalty kick failed to produce goals.
