Times Have Certainly Changed

Old Trafford used to be a ground teams feared and how times have changed as now it is an opportunity to pick up points for the away teams.

When people used to mention teams like Manchester United and Chelsea you would think they would be challenging for some type of silverware or be fairly high up in the league. This year is very different however and I can only see doom and gloom. It is not bad as the wheel has turned and they never kept up with the times.

United thought they were a great team again as they thrashed Chelsea on the opening day this season. The truth is Chelsea are shockingly bad and United are actually fairly close to them in what they can offer. Arsenal are a little better than both of these sides, but they aren't that strong either. The top two are so far ahead of the rest it is rather scary. Tottenham are not far behind and expect them to cement the number 3 spot. The rest though are all much of the same and this is what makes it really interesting this season.

If we put it into context United have played 4 games and have won only one against a really weak Chelsea team. The other 3 games they have drawn 2 and lost one against teams they would normally have for breakfast. Their next 5 fixtures are not straight forward and should be a little worrying for any Manchester fans. Leicester at home is a tough one for them followed by West Ham away who never make it easy. Arsenal, followed by Newcastle and then Liverpool.I can see points against Newcastle and maybe one other, but I am struggling to see a definite result and a banker.

Chelsea have a few "weaker" teams in their next few games but Brighton and Wolves are going to fight as they smell blood. They also play Liverpool which could be a nasty scoreline and one for the record books. I have a soft spot for Chelsea as they were part of the area where I worked in London, but I see them as the same sort of standard as the likes of Newcastle now.

I know Arsene Wenger came out the other day saying United have no chance for the league and maybe that is the smartest thing Arsene has said for quite a while. The glory days have definitely gone and it will be interesting to see when they play that Glory Glory Man United tune again after a home win. This team must rank as the weakest team I have ever seen and I am going back more than 30 years.

This is about soccer right? :) I never know anymore. I need pictures to keep me on track :) Nice post and a great analysis! Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, I don't think this team is good enough to win anything. I use the word 'team' loosely and think that's the biggest issue. Getting Pogba to play, or selling him will help, but individually the players are short of what's required.

At least I got to grow up through the glory days :)
