Christian Eriksen's contract expires next year. He will then be a free agent to sign for any club that will take him. There will be no shortage of takers. No wonder Tottenham want to cash in on the want away star right now. 60 million in the bank is better than nothing. United and Tottenham agreed terms but the player turned down a move. It was seen as a step down for Eriksen who refused to go to the Red Devils. How times have changed. His eyes are on Madrid. La Liga has started but they have until 2nd September to come in for him. If they wait then they will get him next year on a free transfer. Something Daniel Levy does not want to happen.
Tottenham have a policy where they keep extending players contracts offering incremental increases. They never break their wage structure and offer the players just enough to stay. If other clubs come in for the player then they have to pay a hefty transfer fee which turns other clubs off. Luka Modric had 4 years left on his contract and left for £30 million, Bale had 3 years left and left for £85 million. Kyle Walker 3 years left £50 million and so on and so forth. Not bad business by Spurs boss Daniel Levy.
Harry Kane has signed deals in February 2015, another 5 year deal in December 2016 and now a six year deal in June 2018 . It is safe to call him a Tottenham player. But the players are getting wide to this method and are now leaving their contracts run their course. Winks, Deli Ali and Davies just signed new deals. The ink was bearly dry from their previous contracts

Toby Alderweireld was the first player to not conform on to this way of doing business and refused to sign a new contract. The payment increase was laughable so he stalled. And stalled and then stalled some more. Talks broke down and now there was a year left on his contract. He is now holding all the cards.

Other players noticed that Toby had the club by the short and curly's and they are now deciding to do the same. Now both of these valuable players are in their final years of their contract. Over £100 million of talent walking out the door for nothing. In 2021 Eric Dier and Danny Rose are also out of contract. There is a trend forming here. The players are now in control and the era of low wages at Tottenham is going to come to an abrupt end. On a free the players can demand massive wages since there is no fees involved. Clubs are going to have to find a way to take back control.

That's a good style honestly. As much as they want to keep their players, if other clubs wished to get their player's services then they have to pay a hefty transfer fee. That's a good business to maintain and a good future for the Hotspur.

Couldn't agree more. Levy is a wizard

Yeah, I can say he was the reason why Tottenham has risen and elevated their competition.

By the way, was Bale a former defender of Tottenham?

He was indeed. Started at left back. He was alway going down too easy. The manager at the time told the other coaches and physios to ignore his play acting. He started becoming a player soon after. But we were happy to get 120 million for him.

Totenham are a business venture rather than a football club really, I definitely hope and wish Erikson well.

Business ventures got to champions league final last year . They are jusy shrewd with money but still a great club

Levy sounds like an idiot. What may have worked 10 years ago won't work now. Just pay the proper wages and stop cutting corners. What he is trying to save will not be a saving in the long run. Was trying to think as there was another club doing the same thing and it backfired.

Now one of richest clubs in world and signing pkayers for 60 million . The future is bright . Financial stability and shrewd business has us a new stadium . The players have too much power away . I was a cunning move but its had its time now

Levy is a penny pinching, micro-managing moron and you are spot on, it's short-term thinking from a man in a position who should be able to see the bigger picture p.s. he's one of the best paid CEOs in world football

They play at such a great performance for a long long time together. I really appreciate the work of Mauricio! I doubted if they can succeed in the long run, but final of Champions League and TOP4 in few consecutive years told me, that they really can. But they need to keep the team together, or at least the manager!

Thats all depends if Ole Gunnar does well at united

This is a club that keeps players for long. It is a good one wish the players all the best

You know what would help take control back - if the club started winning stuff.

Players want money and success, it's not rocket science. If they can earn more and win more elsewhere then they are going to leave.

It'll be interesting to see where Eriksen ends up. He was shite for large parts of last season and if he can't get a game this year then his chances of signing for 1 of the truly elite sides e.g. Real or Barca which is where he seems to fancy playing are quite slim.

Those clubs are pursuing the likes of Pogba and Neymar for ridiculous sums of money because they fit the "galactico" tag, Eriksen wouldn't be seen as a galactico signing and to be quite frank both sides have better players available to them so even on a free, paying a guy with no re-sale value £300k+ a week to sit on the bench is not that appealing.

I think we need to make it quite clear to Mr. Eriksen that if he doesn't wish to play for Spurs then he needs to go and find a new club by 2nd September otherwise he can spend the next year training with the under-13s
